Publisher's summary

A manifesto for the radical center.

America is frozen. We have failed to face our nation’s most crucial challenges—and we are about to pay the price. When it comes to solving our country’s problems, we have become utterly paralyzed: partisanship has lulled us into a deadlock, preventing us from taking action. Yet we can no longer ignore the inevitable catastrophes or hand them off to Washington to fix—they must be addressed now, or we will suffer the long-term consequences.

In the New York Times best seller Becoming China’s Bitch, Peter Kiernan presents an unflinching manifesto in which he explores five factors that have sustained our national paralysis, then uncovers the 10 challenges that pose the greatest threat to the future of America. Presented from a fresh yet informative centrist perspective, these 10 impending catastrophes include our semi-conscious dependency on China, our lack of a centrally coordinated intelligence effort, our downward-spiraling health-care system, and the continually expanding problem of illegal immigration.

In a logical, personal, and persuasive voice, Kiernan offers radical yet common-sense solutions to these challenges—solutions that every American must acknowledge and act upon before it’s too late.

With provocative insight and analytical depth, Becoming China’s Bitch is the answer to securing our country’s immediate future and restoring our national soul.

A Centrist with an Attitude

The title is misleading. There is only a brief quip about China. As a student of the current economic crisis, Chinese culture and history I expected more.

Like Mr Kiernan I am a centrist when it comes to social and political issues. You can't ignore the problem; you can't spend your way out of it. Every good piece of legislature involves compromise and making room for unforeseen consequences. Our national tradition is one of compromise, and again more compromise until the greater cause prevails. But in the current angry climate of 'red' and 'blue' political factions, and TV/radio media taking sides for reasons of beliefs and corporate revenues, compromise is a challenge. So I had hoped Kiernan would bring more calm, reflective reason to the national debate.

I was wrong. Kiernan speaks with condescension toward both political colors. He's like the angry man who tries to end his next-door neighbors' domestic quarrel with his own bitter shouting. His solution to America's political division is to divided the country into THREE colors.

That said, there are some very good arguments. Listen to his thinking; ignore his whining

As I listened to the audio I wondered why the anger in Kiernan's words. Is it that anger sells? We used to sell books by hating Jews, Nazis, Catholics and Fundamentalists.' Later we made money and gained power by hating 'Commies.' But now we have come of age (sarcasm). We hate the former President, the current President, the Republicans, the Democrats. We even fight over the voluntary national pledge of "one nation under God." It is the words "one' and "God" we find so offensive.
