About this listen

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two feuding second-grade teachers (and neighbors) find themselves teaming up in this new rivals-to-lovers romance set in Rome, Kentucky—from the New York Times bestselling author of The Rule Book and Practice Makes Perfect.

“Sarah Adams writes books with heart and soul. They speak to the people finding their way and being unapologetically themselves in the process. I love her style.”—Hannah Grace, author of Icebreaker

Emily Walker hates having her carefully crafted world disrupted by anyone, most of all her legendary nemesis, Jack Bennett. He’s the opposite of the wonderful heroes she dreams up in her double life as a romance writer, which is why Emily was perfectly happy when Jack left Rome, Kentucky, mid-school year with his fiancée. The last thing Emily saw coming was Jack’s return at the start of the summer after calling off the wedding and ending his relationship, but he’s here to stay—as her colleague and her neighbor.

Jack is glad to be back, eager to renovate his house and work on the next mystery novel under his bestselling pen name. But when he realizes he’s now neighbors with the one woman who has always pushed his buttons, he discovers something he’s even more excited about—thwarting Emily and her petty plans to sabotage his return.

With their chemistry-fueled animosity at an all-time high, Emily accidentally sends an email to their school’s principal that could reveal her secret literary side hustle. She needs to steal back her manuscript, and Jack—she hates to admit—is just the man to help her. Surprisingly, he agrees. Will their unlikely alliance put an end to their rivalry? Or could it lead to a steamy plot twist they never saw coming?

I LOVE BRITTANY PRESSLEY!

SWOOON!!! I loved this book, it was so hard to put down! Emily and Jack are enemies, and have been since meeting in college. With Jack returning to Emily’s hometown, she’s in the mood to make his life miserable. But the unexpected happens and they find friendship in one another and maybe something a bit more that was always there but hidden behind their souls.

This was such a cute read, I adored Emily, she was strong, so strong that she kept everything inside. I can very much relate, trying to be the strong shoulder everyone can cry on, and everyone can count on you to help pick up their broken pieces. She had so much weight on her shoulders I knew that one day she would fall, and I’m so happy that Jack was there for her that night.

Jack!!!! Jackson, you beautiful man. I loved him, ever hung about him, from his crazy tattoos, and his fun little necklaces and his bright clothes! Even when he and Emily were giving each other shit, he still cared for her. The flirty bike scene was sooooooo perfect, I loved it! I felt that really got the ball rolling them becoming some sort of friends and less enemies! The heist was cracking me up, they’re just so funny and witty and snarky together and I do hope they never lose that!

Now, can we talk about what freaking narcissistic dad Jack has, oh my gosh, I legit can’t believe they left us without an answer on how that all went down! I was with Emily on that one I definitely wanted to murder his dad! Haha

I randomly pick this up at target, I don’t think I’ve read anything from Sarah Adam’s before, but I’ve seen her other books, I also didn’t know this was a whole family series, and I’m excited for Madison’s book! But I feel like I need to go back and read Noah and Annie’s books too!

Five incredible stars for such a lovely book! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My Heart!!

I fell in love with this series all over again. Emily and Jackson's is such a sweet and genuine love that develops between two very real feeling people. Bringing hope to all the rest of us, and reminding us to feel and heal tthrough our challenges in life. ALSO... can I go live in THIS version of Rome Kentucky?

I like strong women characters

I love romance stories that address more than the romance. The mental health themes were not the primary focus but enhanced the character development and story line. I also love books about teachers and teaching, even though there wasn’t much about that.

Great Story

I love this story. I love that in the prequel tha author tells you which chapters contain the steamy scenes. This is about two wonderfully described characters who build a relationship. It is NOT “I met you a week ago, fell in love for life and am now banging the heck out of you”. I appreciate the storyline so much. I laughed at some of the scenes and did not want to put it down. Thanks, Sarah Adams!

Sizzling

I adored the banter between the two main characters. It was laugh out loud funny! I enjoyed the continuing story of characters in Rome, Kentucky and hope she writes Madison’s story to make it feel complete.
