About this listen

"I remember the dirt: winter-parched and hard, the angst of chalk smeared into canvas-board by an artist shrieking visions...." So begins Bernadette, a poetic rhapsody that is both memoir and, as hinted in the final poem, "Excerpts from a Pessimist's Alphabet", a "reverdie" of figments bound between the covers of a book that smells of years stashed on a shelf unopened, stewing in its unshed dreams.

A lovely walk through wisened memories

This is fabulous work by Maris. The lovely imagery, created by telling the memories of a perceptive youth through the filter of experience and wisdom, is beautifully narrated. Well worth a listen and will definitely listen to it again.

Maris Bosquet's intriguing collection of vignettes, at times poignant, always insightful, combined with a smooth, confident narration by Samantha Ainslie makes this the kind of book one returns to again and again.
