Good one-day who-done it

C. de Melo is becoming a favorite of mine and she did not disappoint with Betrayed!
Let me start by saying that I enjoyed that this book was a shorter book. Sometimes I’m not up for a 14+ hour book and just want a quick morning listen in a soft sweater, curled of with a cup of coffee.
The story line was a classic who-done it, well written, never boring. I enjoyed it very much.

We start off at the funeral of Angus Lancaster, grandfather of a wealthy family. Eventually, we make the connection of grandfather’s death to the horrible actions that unfold in the story. We immediately learn of Kate Lancaster and get a peek at her secret love interest, Lord Christopher Bradshaw. During the story, we fall in love with Kate, she’s extremely likable. We’d love for her to be our best friend. She’s kind, respectful, sensitive, smart, and strong. Her relationship with her maid, Molly, is quite sweet. At one point, I felt like I was walking with Molly when she went back to the store, went in, then left. I ran with her when she ran; I ducked down with her when she ducked. Towards the end of the book, during the climax, I felt like the story passed too fast. I needed more. I would have liked the scene to have been built up more before hand, and also had more detail just after. I felt like I needed more of Kate’s perspective too feel like it was more realistic and not a bit of a reach. I didn’t have that same feeling of being there like I did with the beginning and the middle of the story. I loved the twist at the end with Lucas Bradshaw, I was literally smiling ear-to-ear when he revealed his secret. I’d love for Lucas to have his own book one day, it’d be very interesting.

I enjoyed the pace of this story, there was never really a dull moment or a time when I lost interest.

The narrator, Melissa Durbin, did a wonderful job, she helped me to feel like I was there. Also, her accent was perfect for the story line. She successfully changed her voice with each character, which for me makes or breaks a book.

Betrayed is yet another C. de Melo book that I definitely recommend!

Great Book

This story was moving, romantic, with mystery, suspense, and wonderful characters. I was hooked from the beginning and found it hard to quit listening. The love between Christopher and Kate is sweet and I loved that he was faithful to his wife through it all. If someone wants a clean regency adventure and romance this is a book to read.

The narration is superb!

Entertaining, 1770's Romantic Murder Mystery

An intriguing romantic murder mystery set in 1770's London and rural England. A strength of the book is that the female main character is more proactive and less of a period prig.
