About this listen

With unflinching honesty and moving prose, Janet Mock relays her experiences of growing up young, multiracial, poor, and trans in America, offering listeners accessible language while imparting vital insight about the unique challenges and vulnerabilities of a marginalized and misunderstood population.

Though undoubtedly an account of one woman's quest for self at all costs, Redefining Realness is a powerful vision of possibility and self-realization, pushing us all toward greater acceptance of one another - and of ourselves - showing as never before how to be unapologetic and real.

Powerful and moving

Her story is powerful. Her reading of it is eloquent. I cried and yelled back at her younger self often throughout. I couldn't recommend this any higher, weather to find some connection as a woman, Cis or Trans, or to broaden your experience as anyone else.

loved it.

Absolutely wonderful, I loved listing to this book. Janet's calming voice guides you through her story with a grace and strength I've rarely heard. As someone who is finding truths about herself, Janet had me in tears.

A raw unapologetic account of one woman's journey.

this was an amazing story that details the emotional rollercoaster that underrepresented trans women of color endure on their journey to being accepted.

Insightful

I was extremely interested in Janet's story after starting on the FX show "Pose" & learning she was attached to it.
This was an insightful glimpse into her story. We can all benefit from educating ourselves more about what it means to a Trans person in our society and I thank her for educating me

I can't describe how amazing this book is

I've read a lot of books over the course of my life, and this is one of the best books I've ever read. The narration was incredible, and I am beyond thankful that Janet Mock is comfortable and able to share her story. There are some stories that one might read that they will think of very often, and this is one of them. This book will stay with me as I navigate my life and my identity, and I'm blessed thatl I had the opportunity to listen to it.

Honest and eye opening

An honest story about a trans woman of color. This book will help as a guide for anyone with those intersections. As someone who does not identify with any of those identities, I learned a lot about these experiences and have more appreciation for all transgender individuals.

absolutely amazing.

Janet Mocks story speaks to me personally as a trans woman. Her story depicts the unbelievable issues in the LGBT community and reassures the readers (or in this case, listeners) that it gets better.

5 stars for this beautiful and inspiring piece

Revelations

I first read ‘Redefining Realness’ by Janet Mock in 2015 as a young Genderfluid who was suppressing her true identity as a Trans Woman. It’s now 2021 and I reread this memoir to help me understand myself, my journey, and come to terms with the revelation that I am a Trans Woman of Color.
