Publisher's summary

In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up.

Twenty-eight days later, the entire Lutz family fled in terror.

This is the spellbinding, best-selling, true story that gripped the nation - the story of a house possessed by evil spirits, haunted by psychic phenomena almost too terrible to describe.

Jay Anson began as a copy boy on the New York Evening Journal in 1937 and later worked in advertising and publicity. With more than 500 documentary scripts for television to his credit, he was associated with Professional Films, Inc. He died in 1980.

So good, it’s scary.

I was never a big fan of the movie but I have to admit, this book scared the hell out of me. Very intense and spooky. In addition, the narrator keeps the listener on the edge of their seat with every word. If looking for a horror book, look no further! Great stuff….

Fast good read
I researched some the events and some were impossible to happen, but that just makes the mystery more real, right?

A revisiting of a book I read many times.

I stumbled across this audible a few days ago and had to download it. I had read the book many times years ago. I am not here to convince you that it happened or to disprove the events. That is for each individual to decide. We all have our own beliefs. It is a well written book and the narrative is very good. I am glad I was able to revisit it.

The gentleman reading this book could read every book on audible and would make $1 million in a day his voice is amazing and how he portrays this story makes it even better.

Not that bad of a book

First off, this story is fake, it just seems that way. It wasn't bad, the narrrarator was soothing. It had great detail. It was over all nice to listen to. Scary? No. But it was interesting to hear.

I thought it would be more scary

I was able to get into it, as a story, but I wasn't as scared as I thought I'd be. That was a little disappointing.

Inside a Waking Nightmare

Jay Anson lists this account of the haunting of 112 Ocean Avenue (now renamed to avoid some intensely bad press) as non-fiction. That claim has spurred a great deal of debate between skeptics and believers in the paranormal, as the author clearly anticipates it would. Regardless of truth or fiction, this was a super creepy story. Some of the imagery alone that the Lutz claimed to have seen walking around their house kept my attention rapt and that may alone be worth the price of admission.

Ray Porter’s narration is a bit bland, but don’t let that stop you. Don’t get too hung up on which parts of the story are true or false; the ride is worthwhile. If you are at all curious, go check this out!

Edge of your seat

I had a hard time listening to this before bed. It is Erie to think what this poor family endured and left it all behind just to escape.
