Publisher's summary

An epic war between dragons and mankind!

Dragons rule the world, united under their powerful dragon-king. Humans struggle to survive as slaves, pets, and prey. One man, the mysterious Bitterwood, strikes at dragons from the shadows, fighting a long, lonely war of resistance. When Bitterwood is blamed for the death of the dragon-king's son, the dragons launch a full scale campaign to rid the world of the legendary dragon-slayer - even if they must kill all of mankind to do so.

Critic reviews

"For the sake of humanity, join in Bitterwood's revolt." (Kirkus Reviews)

"A grabber from page one, a smart tale of adventure and revenge sprinkled with echoes of our own dangerous times. James Maxey's world of dragons and humans at war is so solidly and engagingly rendered that I never wanted to leave." (John Marco)

"Bitterwood is an unlikely hero in a rich world, with a rich history that holds many surprises. James Maxey tells his story with a sure hand. Enjoy the journey!" (Carrie Vaughn)

This is one of the Best books Ive ever read.

Ive been Reading James Maxeys novels since Middle School. they consumed me entirely during High School. I read Bitterwood and His Other Series, Dragon Apocalypse, back to back throughout those Four Years. I was obsessed. I have Read Bitterwood in four years, the later years of Highschool, I spent Branching into Other Fantasy Novels Like The Witcher And Throne Of Glass. Joining up with Audible was the smartest decision Ive ever made. Every Single one of James Maxeys Books has an Incredible Narrator, and Of course, amazing story, and Charm. James Maxey has a Certain Wackiness to him that makes his books Amazing to read. A Robot preaching the Name of Jesus? Yep. Perfect sence there. A Ninja Champanzee that Loves dodging Security Systems? Makes Perfect sence. Ill wrap up with this before I end up writing a novel of my own filled with my praises for Maxey; Its a Great Book. James Maxeys name is like a Seal of Quality. Every time I see it on a book, I know it will get Five Stars. Thank you Maxey, for writing such wonderful books.

Fabulous Start to a New Series!

This book is a fantastic start to a new series by the wonderful team of James Maxey and Jake Urry! I personally love dragons. I have a large collection of dragons in various mediums and I am a dungeon master where Dragons are NPC's. But a world ruled by these large, beautiful and most of the time amazing beast is not one I think would make me happy to live in. King Albekizan is a Red Dragon, their reputation is not a good one in any fantasy setting and this one proves no different. He loses his "favorite" son to 1 human man and decides all humans must pay. Typical of his clan. But his other son, I think he will make a really good King, if he can get over his love and respect for his father that is. This is a unique setting and if I had nothing else to go on it would be enough, but the story and the narrative are good, the guilt laden Vendevoricks and where is Gendra's brother?? The story is filled with various personalities and real emotions of a persecuted people. I recommend this story to anyone who liked the Planet of the Apes because this is the Planet of the Dragons..... and you thought apes were bad.....

great story

This is an intriguing blend of genres that draws th listener/reader in. Each character is well fleshed out with own motives, morals, and drives. The narration took a bit of getting use to, as it felt a bit tone deaf in comparison to the text in the beginning, but he eventually picked up voices and nuances very well.
