Did not want it to end!

I really really loved this book. I listened to it on a 7 hour drive and was thoroughly entertained. I was so in to the characters and found parts very heart warming. I enjoy books about family issues. I see this book had mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it very much. I wish that the author would write a sequel. I recommend this book. I will now look for another book by Ms. Forster. I like her style.

Family dysfuction

What did you love best about Blues from Down Deep?

This is my second audio by Gwynne Forster. She is an excellent writer and has a gift for understandable English. The many characters are extinct and memorable. Dysfunction can be recognized in families; but there are always a few who are loyal and attached without reserve. This story is about family, many of which can be close, distant by blood or via marriage. Feelings of love, resentment and envy are presented in the story, and is a product of writer who can reach, touch, and give many elements of "a Family"

Have you listened to any of Sharon Washington’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

well articulated and a positive representation of all the characters.

Smiling faces tells lies.

This story is about growing up with family secrets & not knowing the truth until adulthood. An only lonely childhood came with unfulfilled memories & the hope on a dream that one day, "I will be happy with my family," but that day never comes. Her father passed and she relocates to find that dream she wished for all her life. The strain of family skeletons affects all areas of her life & especially as an adult with relationships, love, trust, past lovers, friends, employment, her character, self worth and of course the core family.

Gwynne Forster is an excellent storyteller & Sharon Washington brings the life to the author's words.

Overall Good Book

This was a very good book. But; am I the only one who was confused about the timeline? Some of the thought processes of the characters would lead you to believe it is based on a time when colored (hence the fact that that term was used in the book) and caucasians didn't quite co-mingle. and a "telegraph" was mentioned as a form of long distance communication then at the same time cell phones were being used. It just seemed a bit vague to me and it would have been nice to be able to pinpoint what era we were in.

The Best I have listened to so far! Don't pass up!

Would you listen to Blues from Down Deep again? Why?

It reminded me of Black cultural views in the South. Skin color appears to be so important.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Blues from Down Deep?

I would have to say it was when Juliette was in the hospital and everyone was saying she had had an abortion. Rumors spread like wild fire. Family was the main instigators.

What does Sharon Washington bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Excitement, the story made me feel like I was back at home in the Mississippi Delta.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

When I read a synopsis of the story, I really wanted to hear the entire storyline. I lived in Hawaii and the author hit the nail right on the head when describing how Polynesian men treat their women. They do not view any work outside the home as relevant. Some are quite sexist.

Any additional comments?

This was a Great read, I love Gwynne Forster, can't wait to listen to another one of her books.

On & on

The narrator's ok, on occasion forgetting to change her voice in changing character, not the romance novel I thought it would be. It was a drawn-out family reunion.

Too Much Going On

I love Gwynne Forster's books but this story had too much going on and it took awhile for me to really be able to get into it. I don't know if it was the narrator's voice or what. By the time I got to the end, I was so disappointed. Don't waste your time listening to this. You'll do better going to the library and reading the book; that way you can at least give it back.
