Publisher's summary

Spirited and whip-smart, these laugh-out-loud autobiographical essays are "a masterpiece" from the Emmy Award-winning actress and comedy writer known for 30 Rock, Mean Girls, and SNL". (Sunday Telegraph).

Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

Editor's Pick: Best of the Decade

Tina Fey wears the pants
"I still remember the first time I listened to Bossypants in 2011. I was a recent college grad and my tastes were embarrassingly snobby, but I liked Tina Fey and thought it would just be soooo subversive to listen to a best seller. Imagine my shock when Bossypants showed me how much pure, uncomplicated joy I could get from a book. I never looked back. Before Tina Fey we had Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, and Joan Rivers, but Bossypants came at just the right moment when the floodgates were opening for women in comedy. Its best seller status made Tina Fey a household name and paved the way for excellent (hilarious) memoirs that would follow by Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Tiffany Haddish, Ali Wong, and so many more. Bossypants launched a cultural phenomenon. What I love best about Tina Fey’s book is her voice, both figuratively and literally. It's a joy to spend five and a half straight hours in her brain, hearing her perspective on comedy, career, and crushes gone awry. The audiobook's use of clips from Saturday Night Live was also revolutionary and elevated this memoir to a whole new level. No matter which comedy memoir I end up falling in love with next, Bossypants will always hold a special place in my heart as the first—and the decade’s best."—Rachel S., Audible Editor

Entertaining and funny

I really enjoy (most) books read by their authors - it's much more like story telling than some narrators are capable of capturing. Tina Fey is funny and authentic. It's interesting to see a glimpse into her life and path to where she is.

Enjoyable :)

Any additional comments?

Tina Fey supplies her audience the most brutally honest, most hysterical pieces of her life in this audiobook. I found it far more appealing and effective to have it read to me in her own voice than to read it on my own. I highly recommend listening to this book!

We All Need to Laugh

I have been so caught up in the everyday struggles to stop and laugh. She will definitely help you do just that! Busted out laughing many times in the car and was great for the ride to and from work when I needed a pick me up. Thank you Tina!

Freakin' Funny

Didn't want to stop listening. Very funny, good choice for mom's looking to have a break or anyone who wants a laugh and to hear some good stories. Humor is, as you'd expect, on point.

Tina Fey at her best! (Audio tech...not so much.)

Tina Fey is, as always, perfect. Too bad it sounds like she recorded it herself. In her bathroom. On a cassette recorder. There are times when the sound is so hot that it has sharp echoes. Other times when her voice trails off into nothing--not just for effect, which is a choice she makes sometimes for the sake of humor--but just because, I guess, the sound tech didn't adjust the levels properly? Maybe? No matter. It's well worth the experience. Highly recommend.

What isn't Tina Fey good at?

Amongst the recent mini-boom of midcareer memoirs from notable comedians, Fey's is perhaps the best-written of the bunch I've read. Nick Offerman's 'Paddle Your Own Canoe' gives it a run for its money, but Fey's balance between personal storytelling -- which doesn't appear to be something she was exactly dying to do -- and humor is fantastic.
