About this listen
In this second canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, we hear the great sage Shukadeva Goswami answering the questions of King Parikit, who has been cursed to die in seven days. After briefly delineating man’s highest duty and the best way to conquer suffering and death, Shukadeva explains the path of mystic yoga and meditation.
We are then introduced to Lord Brahma, greatest of the gods and engineer of the universe. Questioned by his son, Narada, another powerful mystic, he describes the process of creation. We hear how the all-powerful Supreme Person manifests the elements from his spiritual body, enters into them as an expansion of himself, and produces the template for creation that Brahma then effects.
Mysteries of Creation presents this profound and illuminating knowledge in a simplified and dramatic style, making it accessible to all. It offers answers to the often vexing questions of why the universe exists, how we came to be within it, why God lets us suffer, and how we can achieve our fullest potential by awakening our eternal nature as parts of the all-blissful Supreme.
Those interested in cosmology and astronomy will find this book fascinating, presenting as it does the intricate scientific descriptions of universal origins, as understood by the enlightened sages of ancient India. Most of all though, anyone desiring to solve the real problems of life - described in Srimad Bhagavatam as birth, old age, disease, and death - will surely find this work an invaluable resource.

Story
Srimad Bhagavatam is the most prominent of the Puranas, or histories of the Ancient World. The original Sanskrit text of the work, penned by the great sage Vyasadeva, says it is "as brilliant as the sun", because its teachings can illuminate our consciousness even in the darkest times. Much like the Arabian Nights, it has an intricate structure of stories within stories; epic tales of divine incarnations, saints, sages, gods and earthly kings that span vast periods of time.

Said to be the world's longest poem, Mahabharata was originally composed in 100,000 Sanskrit verses by the ancient Indian sage Vyasa. Revered as a sacred text within Hinduism, it contains the great spiritual teaching Bhagavad-gita. Krishna Dharma has condensed the epic into a fast paced novel that fully retains the majestic mood of the original. A powerful and moving tale, it recounts the history of the five heroic Pandava brothers, sons of the Emperor Pandu.

These 1028 poems, grouped as 10 ‘Circles’ (mandalas), have variously been called hymns, poems or songs by Sanskrit scholars. The Rik (so pronounced by the ancient Angirases clans, or Seer-Priest families) was an experiment with sound. The emphasis is always on sounding the words perfectly. The focus tends to be on the ideas rather than on the authors in Vedic literature, they are largely religious in nature, reflecting the world view and spiritual preoccupations of ancient India.

They teach that each of us, each Self, is eternal, deathless, one with the power that created the universe.

General interest in Buddhism has never been higher. The story and teachings of a man who lived 2,500 years ago have a special resonance for us today, perhaps because he taught a way of life that was not based on belief in a creator god but rather on personal experience. "Test my words for yourself," he said. But what lies behind those distinctive images of the Buddha, seated with unshakeable poise, with eyes half-closed and a slight smile? Story
At the beginning of his career, Joseph Campbell developed a lasting fascination with the cultures of the Far East, and explorations of Buddhist and Hindu philosophy later became recurring motifs in his vast body of work. However, Campbell had to wait until middle age to visit the lands that inspired him so deeply. In 1954, he took a sabbatical from his teaching position and embarked on a year-long voyage through India, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and finally Japan.

Dante Alighieri was early in recognizing that our age has a problem. His hometown, Florence, was at the epicenter of the move from the medieval world to the modern. The Divine Comedy was born in a time of troubling transition, which is why it still speaks today. In this narrative retelling and guide, from the gates of hell, up the mountain of purgatory, to the empyrean of paradise, Mark Vernon offers a vivid introduction and interpretation of a book that, 700 years on, continues to open minds and change lives.

Sanskrit for "Song of the Lord", the Bhagavad Gita is a 700-verse Hindu epic that constitutes part of the faith's vast cornerstone work, the "Mahabharata." The book provides timeless truths and indispensable advice for believers trying to overcome internal tensions, doubt and indecision. The teachings are conveyed in the form of a dialogue between the Pandava general Arjuna and the deity Krishna, who helps Arjuna understand his position in the Kurukshetra War, and guides him towards the right course of action.

Osho comments in a series of talks on these sutras and brings Buddha's teachings into the 21st century. One day, after the Buddha finishes his daily walk to collect alms, a senior monk steps forth to ask how he can best help humanity. In My Gita, acclaimed mythologist Devdutt Pattanaik demystifies The Bhagavad Gita for the contemporary reader. His unique approach - thematic rather than verse by verse - makes the ancient treatise eminently accessible. In a world that seems spellbound by argument over dialogue, vi-vaad over sam-vaad, Devdutt highlights how Krishna nudges Arjuna to understand rather than judge his relationships.

Much like the Arabian Nights, it has an intricate structure of stories within stories; epic tales of divine incarnations, saints, sages, gods and earthly kings that span vast periods of time.

a much needed series of books
Having read Krishna Dharma's Ramayana and Mahabharata retellings, I expected this series to be more dramatic. But a great series of books nonetheless.
This series is good for anyone interested in the Srimad Bhagavatam. It introduces the great literature in a succinct manner. Being written in a story form, it gives us a nice visual of the events described in the SB. For an advanced learner, it is a great little book to have regular recaps of the SB.
The audio-book version is especially useful for me because I can listen to it while doing other activities or at bedtime. Each book is only about 4 hours long, so I can quickly go through it. I would be listening to these books over and over again to keep the SB fresh in my mind.
The reader has a nice soothing voice. The recording is fine. Overall, I'm happy with it. Looking forward to all the subsequent cantos.

Another Insightful &Timely Text in the Series
The Srimad Bhagavatam is a powerful and spiritual scriptural text that speaks to the human condition. It addresses our foils, foibles, and fantastic traits. I never tire of hearing the stories, so I'm continuing on to the next Canto in the series. The narrator has a great voice, and while some have accused him of mangling a few mispronounced names, the quality of the text is not harmed by it.
