Publisher's summary

Book One of a three book trilogy.

Nick O'Hara is a veritable womanizer. The only qualifications that he looks for in a romantic connection is that the person is hot and breathing. Mainly hot. He has no desire for an emotional connection with another person, and that's the way he lives his life. He has his fabulous wealth and his reputation as a premiere architect, and that's enough for him.

Until Scotty James.

Scotty is a graduate student at Columbia University in New York City. She's broken from traumatic experiences from her years in foster care and homelessness. She has a vulnerability that is intoxicating to Nick, because, deep down, he knows that he is as broken as she.

When Nick pursues Scotty, it seems that she is the only woman who doesn't want to be with him. At first she's a challenge, but Nick soon finds himself falling in love for the first time in his life. With a woman who wants nothing to do with him.

Can Scotty overcome her trust issues and fear to let Nick in? Or will she prove to be too broken to trust?

I loved it until the hero disappointed me

Would you try another book from Annie Jocoby and/or Jeremy York and Allison Lynnewood ?

I would try another book by Annie Jocoby. I will not try another book by Allison Lynnewood. Her voice the entire time sounded like she was trying to seduce every character.

What could Annie Jocoby have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Annie Jocoby needs to make her heroes more alpha. Scotty spilled her guts out to Nick and what Nick did shortly after disappointed me and I lost all connection.

How could the performance have been better?

Allison Lynnewood voice sounded to seductive like she was reading an erotica. At times even like a Valley Girl. Scotty, the heroine, is an innocent and she is NOT supposed to sound like she is out of breath or "sexy" the entire time.
Nick, the hero, is supposed to be a 35 year old guy. Jeremy York sounded like 45 year old man.

Not quite a 5

I loved the story, and I both read the electronic version and audible one. I was not happy with the voice for Scotty James. I liked Ms Lynnewood's voice _ just not as Scotty. The author tends to write long, emotional contemplative dialogues for both Scotty and Nick, but instead of enhancing the storyline, I found it distracting and often annoying. It is so remarkable, however, that the narrator's encompass the characters and the settings to try to capture the full feel of a story. They did so here, it was just not the right fit for me that the voice of Lynnewood came across as just "off" for Scotty.

Would not recommend

There are a lot odd reasons I wouldn't recommend this book, first it says this is book one but clearly as you get into you find out either there is other books that came before this one or the author is just really bad. Second Nick is an all around douchbag, seriously I get it that it takes you a whole to get your shit together but don't have the character professing his undying love then go bang someone else because he just isn't sure he can change. I will not be finishing this serious even though it ended on a cliffhanger, sadly I will leave these characters to hang on that cliff.

Good story

I enjoyed this audiobook of the first book in this series. The narration was well done and the story moved along well also. I did find myself a little frustrated with the hero, as he didn't seem to think straight sometimes, and the heroine was very timid (though she had s reason to be).
P.S. Hate the character of Portia!!

Female narrator ruined it

The story was interesting but maybe a little drawn out. The male narrator was good but the female was horrible. I want to listen to book 2 but I am dreading to see if she's also narrating it as well.

second

I read this book awhile back. I enjoy how Scotty is learning to love an trust. how Nic is changing his lifestyle he can be proud of.
the only thing was them automatically jumping to the wrong conclusion an not just confronting the person .

OMG Can I please get my money back. Paid $1.99

What would have made Broken better?

The narrator made this book painful. I wish I had read the reviews first. The writing is horrible as well. I hate when narrators use a twang or drag the words. It makes the books horrible. Granted the guy narrator was great. The female narrator was not. Seems like the director would have stopped the performance after 5 minutes and made her stop. I don't understand how this happened!

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not this or the next book by this author. I can't even after this!

Would you be willing to try another one of Jeremy York and Allison Lynnewood ’s performances?

Jeremy York yes. Allison Lynnewood NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What character would you cut from Broken?

I would cut the entire book!

Any additional comments?

Can anyone tell me how to get a refund for this?

I just couldn't finish it.

Would you try another book from Annie Jocoby and/or Jeremy York and Allison Lynnewood ?

The only person I want to hear more from is Jeremy York. The book dragged on so slowly, I fell asleep multiple times while listening to it. (This never happens to me.) Also, Allison Lynnewood was inappropriately sexy/breathy when her character was supposed to be fearful of affection. I wish I could give York 5 stars and Lynnewood 1 star.

Would you ever listen to anything by Annie Jocoby again?

Highly unlikely.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I'd say, yes. The story was slow and Lynnewood was slow. Jeremy York seemed to do his best to bring life to the story.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Broken?

Honestly, I made it only halfway through the story before I just couldn't listen anymore. I will possibly go back to it at some point. What I heard so far, I think could have been condensed/cut down to about 1/4 of what was written.

bad

Great narration, lackluster story. Filled with cliches and uninteresting characters. The author relied on rape too much as a plot device and it did nothing for the story.

Broken

I love these kind of books, but the narrators were not fit for these characters. Scotty is a poor sweet girl and the female reading did not have the voice to fit the part. she made her sound like a stuck up rich girl. Over all the story was okay.
