Publisher's summary
Lieutenant Eve Dallas must immerse herself in her billionaire husband Roarke’s world of big business to uncover the identity of a hit man in this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series.
On Manhattan’s East Side a woman lies dead at the bottom of the stairs, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better.
A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn’t seem the type to be on anyone’s hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the building, the lieutenant knows Marta’s murder was the work of a killer who’s trained, but not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.
But when someone steals the files out of Marta’s office and the killer’s violent streak begins to escalate, Eve knows she has to draw him out, even if it means using herself as bait…

Narrator ruined this book for me!
The story was gripping but I almost stopped listening because of Susan Ericksen's narration. The voice of the detective partner, Peabody, was so annoying and distracting that I didn't want to hear it anymore. Some of her other characters were equally as annoying. Won't listen to another book with her as narrator.

Excellent as always.
Murderers who come to the attention of Eve Dallas, Roarke and team beware. No one gets away. So true as an innocent accountant dies at the hands of a so-called mugger on Dallas' watch. A "simple" murder turns into complicated illegal financial maneuverings and more murders. All of this tries to interfere with the premier of The Icove Agenda film. Spot-on dialogue, tight relationships and a plot full of tension makes for excellent reading. Narrator Susan Ericksen gives another outstanding performance of voices.

another great book!!!
First time I have ever stuck to series with this many books. The narrator is good at telling stories with the fluctuations of her voice. she can paint a realistic picture. J.D. Robb is the whole package writter. just a bit of everything
