The narrator ruined it.

Narrator struggling and repeating things, background noises, near impossible to know what character said what.

Great story.

Narrator was horrible just read the words and repeated A LOT, it took real concentration to follow the story line and characters.

Great story AWFUL JOB with the Narration

I couldn't even finish listening, so I am grateful that audible allows returns. I am sure David McCann is super embarrassed because I am sure that this was a serious processing mistake or something-- there is NO WAY this was the edited recording! NO WAY! The story is so good though, But an unedited reading...opps! Ugh.

The narrators heavy accent exhausted me

The book was technically fine, I would have enjoyed it more with a different narrator. His voice was f
Grating, and instead of being charming, it was just exhausting. I would listen until I could not stand it any more. Then I would try to go a little further the next day. Exhausting.

Don’t waste your time

Narrator was awful. Continually repeating himself which made a slow moving story almost unbearable to finish. I skipped a lot of this book and felt like I missed nothing

Excellent police procedural well told

This is a well crafted police procedural set in the wilderness of Scotland. The characters were engaging and there were enough twists and turns in the plot to keep you guessing to the end. The minor characters were particularly well drawn, adding a depth to the story that was very satisfying.
I particularly loved the gravely Scottish brogue of the narrator David McCann. It added a touch of realism to the voices, to hear them in the accent the author intended. It was very easy on the ear, and I would love to hear more from this distinctive voice.
Looking forward to the next installment.

Why was this recording not edited?

I knew from the reviews that the narration was terrible, but as the third book in the series relates back to the first I thought I would give it a go.
This is just the raw recording! Every mistake, repetition and even a few superfluous "sorries" are all there.
Audible, this is not the standard we expect!

Worst Narrator

I read another review and I agree. I listen to about a books day and have for over 3 years. This was the worst narrator, totally ruined the book, his voice was fine but lines were repeated constantly. There was no reflection in his voice to distinguish which character was speaking.

Horrid reader

This is the second worst reader I have ever heard. Does that guy ever swallow his saliva? The story had promise but hard to follow awful reading.
