Publisher's summary

Satirical humor from the master. A group of congressmen are trapped in a snowbound train for two months. When they run out of food, they do what congressmen do - they form a committee to decide who among them should be eaten first.

Editorial reviews

Jack Benson and Walter Zimmerman interpret Mark Twain’s 1868 short story “Cannibalism in the Cars” in vibrant manner. In this satire of the American political system, two strangers meet on a train. One man relates a story that happened some years earlier. During a snowstorm, a group of 24 men are trapped on a train bound for Chicago. As their situation turns desperate, they resort to cannibalism to sate their hunger. The killings are carried out in a democratic fashion. Nominations are followed by lively debate, and then an election takes place. Is this a vile memory, or the zany musings of a madman?

Great story. Narration OK.

Some variation in volume. But great story, my favorite Twain story. The ending is always funny.

It wouldn't matter which decade this story is told, it will always ring true. This is the joy of classics!
