About this listen

New York Times best-seller. Over five million copies sold

For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him the Fittest (Real) Man in America.

In Can't Hurt Me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40 percent of our capabilities. Goggins calls this The 40% Rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.

An annotated edition of Can't Hurt Me, offering over two hours of bonus content featuring deeper insights and never-before-told stories shared by David. Not available in other formats.

STAY HARD

Goggins is one of a kind. There is no one better at helping you understand how to maximize your potential, how to not limit yourself, how to get and stay hard. I will read/listen to anything involving Goggins and have been waiting for this book since it was announced.

If you’ve heard/read about “Living with a Seal” David Goggins is the unnamed Navy Seal in that book. Now you can finally hear his full story.

Get this without thinking twice.

Overcoming all obstacles

I liked the format of this audio book. It combines Mr. Goggins himself, Mr. Skolnick, a narrator/collaborator, Mr. Goggins’ autobiography, his self analysis, a podcast format, and guidance for readers who wish to improve their lives. The interaction between Mr. Goggins and Mr. Skolnick adds a fresh element to the entire presentation. Clearly Mr. Goggins has confronted and overcome significant obstacles in his lifetime and can serve as an inspiration to all of us. That said, not everyone will feel the need to take self improvement to the nth degree, as did Mr. Goggins. I was somewhat put off by his drive to compete constantly. It didn’t seem like Mr. Goggins’ striving to be the best left much time for a personal life. But his path doesn’t apply to everyone, though aspects of it surely do. The story of his life still has much value for readers and listeners. I’m glad I listened to his book.

Fantastic and creatively presented

I have been waiting for this book after hearing Goggins on Joe Rogan’s podcast and following him on Instagram. I listened to the book during a Trail Marathon today which replaced my listening to the podcast in a 50 Miler last month. Love the book and it’s autobiographical content and call to action for its listeners, but what I didn’t expect is the creative presentation. After each chapter, the narrator and Goggins discuss each chapter and Goggins offers personal stories and insights. I think even those who are not currently followers will appreciate the humble “this book isn’t about me, it’s about the reader taking action”theme. My only disappointment will be when it ends, but I guess that’s when we need to put those words into action for our own betterment! Can’t recommend it enough.

Funcarsnow

Dear David,

I’m retired and have lived a productive, fulfilling life. For many years I read a motivational book each month to bolster my goals and aspirations. Your book’s like none I ever read.

I’m not a veteran, I’ve focused on many goals. Some physical - I played football in 3 of the 4 high schools I attended as well as in college. Some Academic- I earned a 5 year mechanical engineering degree in 4 years. That 8 year period of my life taught me the power of discipline, commitment and hard work. As a farm kid, I was blessed with the full understanding of hard, dirty, physical work that I never forgot.

I enjoyed a wonderful career. I lead a 57 engineer team to some serious successes. But, I never harbored ideas that I was bigger than life.

Where I part ways with your book is the necessity of being the ‘best’ engineer there is. I was able to extract the best from my teams and accepted I wasn’t the smarted, meanest, SOB - though I did not doubt my strong leadership abilities and never settled or backed down.

In the end of your book, you speak of God’s chart for us all. What if God’s chart shows being a great father to 3 sons who vastly eclipsed your own father’s performance here on earth? How about being a great husband" Being the baddest MFer isn’t part of those job descriptions.

I pray you’ll adjust the chart of your future to demonstrate God’s love and your Faith. You were blessed with a needed repair of your heart - I wish you the best of luck in a future bigger than yourself. Being the baddest MFer on the planet is an elusive and fleeting title.

I realize you’ve only done an autopsy on a part of your life but it sounds like there are some parts that can use some help because the only soul you’re taking in the rest of your life’s competition is your own.

I respect your service and am in awe of your amazing accomplishments.

Thank you for an honest, thought provoking book. Good Job!

Absolutely phenomenal!!!

I love love how real and straightforward you are in this book. Some people love the sugar coating I, however, loved the realness and straight to the point facts! THANK YOU!!

Inspirational story, but I not for me.

I am an extreme athlete, so I thought I would love this. Many people told me that I must read it. I enjoy many of his interviews in short form, but I only made it one-third of the way through the book before turning it off. While the story is impressive and what he has overcome is extraordinary. I couldn't connect with it enough to finish. I agree with the "suck it up and push through" mentality ... completely. But after a while it became annoying. Impressed ... yes. Inspired ... no.

The Truth

This book is the ugly truth and I appreciated it.
It allows you to dive into your mind and show you how to fix yourself.
As a fellow chief (not a seal)I wish that all chiefs had to listen to this book.
This book doesn't teach you how to be superman it teaches you to hold yourself accountable and a pathway to deal with your own shit so you can move on to be a better you.
This book is for everyone!!!
P.S. If you can't get past the cussing you need this book the most.
