  • Summary

  • In an explosive Audible Original investigative series, executive produced by James Patterson, veteran journalist and New York Times best-selling author Vicky Ward chronicles her 19-year quest to uncover what - or who - is behind Jeffrey Epstein’s wealth, influence, and criminality. You’ll hear testimonies from over 20 individuals with ties to Epstein, as well as previously off-the-record transcripts and exclusive conversations with Epstein himself.

Ward’s journey began in 2002 when she profiled Epstein for Vanity Fair. At the time, she didn’t realize just how close she came to uncovering the financier’s web of secrets, connections, and wealth that enabled his sexual crimes and shielded him from justice for decades. As she investigated further, Ward would unearth ties to a criminal empire of money-laundering, gun-running, and international espionage.

Amidst all the bold-faced names, the saga repeatedly intertwines with that of a single enigmatic figure: Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s ex-lover, former employee, and alleged co-conspirator. The disgraced heiress, who now awaits trial herself, may hold the key to unlocking the truth behind Epstein.

  • Prologue, Episode 1: Ghislaine Behind Bars
    Jul 15 2021
In 2002, veteran reporter Vicky Ward was assigned what seemed like an easy story: Find the source of Jeffery Epstein’s money. The story turned hard, though, when she stumbled on early sexual abuse allegations about Jeffrey and Ghislaine Maxwell and Vicky found her professional and personal safety under threat. In Jeffrey’s absence, Vicky now chases Ghislaine’s secrets: her relationship to Jeffrey, what she knows of the building of his web of international elites, and the fate of his fortune.

So Far Only the Trailer is Available

I downloaded it not realizing that it was only the trailer. Disappointed that there weren’t at least a few podcast episodes to listen to.
Will update if more content is available soon.

Necessary Information

Suzie
It’s appalling that the things that are revealed in this podcast have been kept secret. I know this is just the tip of the iceberg and I’m looking forward to finding out all the rest!

Ms. Ward chases, but captures nothing new

Ms. Ward lost me when she paid Alan Dershowitz, her friend, to come on and gloss over his defense for Jeffrey Epstein. AD and company, got JE a slap on the wrist from the Florida DA years ago, which allowed him to continue his depraved crimes. Dershowitz is trying desperately to distance himself from the case, but he was vicious to the victims. No wonder the Farmer sisters question Ms Ward’s sympathy to them.

I also don’t get the sense that she fought Vanity Fair tooth and nail to ensure her original story on JE to included anything about the Farmer sisters. He threatened to sue her personally and she seemed to concede to that. I understand her hesitation but she doesn’t mention seeing a lawyer in order to protect her journalistic integrity. Others would have pushed back more.

Whining about working while pregnant

Very gossipy but interesting. The only real nit pick were the segments where the host and her producer engaged in a self-absorbed pity party recounting how the host had to work while pregnant. Sure Epstein was a jerk to her, and she bristled at being threatened with litigation, but that's the job.

Asking the audience to commiserate with her over being overwhelmed during her reporting was too much. Who cares that she had a difficult pregnancy? Who cares that Epstein went over her head? Who cares that she was threatened with personal liability? Writing for a living doesn't (or at least shouldn't) give one a license to spread rumors and unsubstantiated allegations. She had a poorly supported allegation from two credible women, but to expect her employer to go out on a limb for her, especially against a man clearly willing to sue (bravado in hindsight), was ludicrous.

In the end, the moaning regarding the host having to work while pregnant took away from the underlying story of an emotional cripple of a woman who allowed herself to be abused by a world-class jerk.
