Publisher's summary

Was he a spy, assassin, or just a gigolo? Porfirio Rubirosa mingled with kings, dined with princes, and socialized with presidents, dictators, mobsters, and movie stars. In the wake of his frenzied activities, he left screaming headlines, hundreds of one-night stands, multiple divorces from the world's richest women (including one who paid $66,000 a day for her dalliance), and more than 500 pages of secret FBI documents.

Now, for the first time, the true story of the world's most famous international playboy is told in this brisk tale of intrigue, danger, and romance.

Critic reviews

"I'd see him in a nightclub with an orchestra playing, and I'd say to myself, God, that's who I want to be when I grow up: Rubirosa." (George Hamilton)
"He was enchanting, mysterious, surprising, and very attractive. Without a doubt, the best dressed man in the world. The way Rubi dressed made me feel like I fell in a dumpster. I was very impressed to meet and know him." (Sammy Davis, Jr.)

The "REAL" James Bond!!!!!

A non-stop exhilarating rollercoaster ride full of pleasure, pain, passion, international mystery, and intrigue, is how I would best describe this fascinating chronicle of the most interesting men in the world....Profirio Rubirosa!!!

There is no doubt it, Marty and Isabella Wall's due diligence on the life and times of Rubirosa and the fascinating narrative they wove around it is truly worthy of a literary award. When combined with Forensic Historian Daniel J. Volker's in-depth research regarding Ian Fleming's real inspiration for the "Spy, Assassin, Devilishly handsome international man of mystery character known as "James Bond", it's easy to understand and see how Fleming "created" such an amazing character. The fictional character James Bond was real... he was Profirio Rubirosa!!! As they say "truth is stranger than fiction"...

On a side note, what's truly funny is that, for dozens of years since Fleming's character jumped off the literary pages, to grace the big screen, many have simply "assumed" the unforgettable charismatic Bond was based on a composite of various British Secret Service agents. They were quite mistaken, British he was not, daring, Dominican, sensual, and a notorious ladies man he was. From this new perspective it's fitting that Antonio Bandaras or Idris Elba take the reigns and introduce the Bond character to a new younger progressive diverse generation.

A fantastic story of a life well lived

I didn’t know what to expect when starting this book nor where it would go it is incredible a man could accomplish or should I say do all of the things that Ruby did in his life where do you find the time when did he sleep how is it possible yet it is and it did and I think somewhere in the back of our minds Ruby is who we all would like to have been I’m surprised there was no mention of him being a role model for James Bond!

Awesome reading

Very interesting character. I had a great time learning about the life of one the most interesting man ever. I see a lot of similarity in what James Bond is today.

Marty wall’s truth about Rubi

I am a Dominican and so many people talks about about Rubi and his charming, many support now and explain on this book. So far I hear new things about him, some are good and are some bad but definitely a good book to hear while doing some work in the heat of South Florida

Awful narration

The most important requirement for this narration was that the narrator have some knowledge of the Spanish language so that it’s not an Anglo accent reading.

Story’s ok, performance is subpar.
