Great!!

This book is a serious attempt at presenting Chinese history for those of us that aren't historians. I listen to it in preparation for a trip to China and though the book was very, very long it was well worth it. Be prepared to get lost in the dynasties, to have to relisten multiple pages and even have to look up big words but if you can get through it you will come away having learned quite a bit.

Enjoying this book

I am about halfway into the book. So far I am enjoying it very much. Not that I will ever remember all the genealogy, or yangs, bangs and gangs. I am hoping it will get better in the modern century. I wish there were more maps to assist in getting a grasp of the vastness of the country.

Interesting!

It's full of interesting stories and fact especially about the various dynasties and martial arts. It doesn't really cover any time period in-depth, but it is not a bad place to start in order to learn which parts are those that you wish to learn more about.

Good

Fairly has a good overview of Chinese history. If you are looking for a detailed view of any specific period of Chinese history this book will not satisfy, but for a good general understanding of the development of Chinese culture and the various military people that were part of making China what it is today, this is an excellent source.
