INSTANT #1 TORONTO STAR and GLOBE AND MAIL BESTSELLER

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau invites listeners on a deeply personal journey toward self-knowledge, acceptance, and empowerment, drawing on the expertise of top psychologists, psychiatrists, scientists, and thought leaders.

As a passionate advocate for mental health, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau believes that in order to know and accept ourselves fully, we need to understand why we think and feel the way we do, and recognize the experiences, attitudes, and patterns that may be holding us back. And yet, all of us are capable of growth and positive change, if we're willing to stay open and curious throughout our lives.

In Closer Together, Sophie shares moments from her own journey: from her childhood, through her struggles with an eating disorder in her teens and early adulthood; from a career as a speaker and television host to de facto "first lady" and mother of three. Above all, Sophie is a warm and empathetic connector, and her book is enriched by exclusive interviews with experts such as Gabor Maté, Liz Plank, Terrence Real, Catherine Price, Harville Hendrix, and Helen LaKelly Hunt—to name just a few—as she delves into the science behind brain health and our unique emotional signatures. She explores the questions that matter the most for our individual and collective growth, and in how we interact with others:

  • How does the way we were raised contribute to our sense of self?
  • How can we better prepare ourselves to deal with big emotions?
  • What do we need from our relationships, and what can we contribute to them?
  • What role do physical activity and creative pursuits play in mental health?
  • How can we let go of what doesn’t serve us and nurture what does?

Drawing on her own mindfulness and yoga practices, Sophie also offers journalling prompts and other tools that will guide listeners as they explore these questions in their own lives. In creating a space for openness, playfulness, and creativity, Sophie inspires us to see that there are more things that bring us together than separate us, allowing us to stand in the light of our true potential.

Editorial Review

A guide to mental resilience and connection from a Canadian icon
Growing up in the States, I’ll admit I didn’t know too much about Sophie Grégoire Trudeau until I picked up her memoir/wellness guide, Closer Together. Beyond her long and successful stint as a television host for CTV and other networks, she’s probably best known in the US as the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (to set expectations, this book is not a tell-all about their recent separation). Trudeau is the rare public figure who shares her mental health journey with an authenticity and vulnerability we don’t often see from those in the political spotlight. With a deep curiosity about brain science and what she calls our “unique emotional alignment,” she draws from her experience as a mental health advocate and speaker, sharing her personal story and what she’s learned along the way to hone resilience, fulfillment and longevity. —Sarah., Audible Editor

Carefully thought out book

I’m pregnant & found so much of this book to be helpful as I’m beginning the parenthood journey. It also helped me understand some of my own personal history too - especially around young childhood development. I loved how she brought in experts for their perspectives. I’ve even started listening to some of them too now. She’s got such an easy voice to listen to. Well worth it for me & would suggest to others.

After listening to the audio book, I’m getting the book!

For me it’s a reference book because of the info given by Sophie and interviews with experts in different fields of psychology. She talks about emotions, parenting (a must-read for parents), attachment, the nervous system and even vagal toning, ect… I connect with her interests in a lot of areas of psychology. She is open about her struggles with mental health and I thank her for that. The book is at times funny with many personal anecdotes from Sophie, she is generous in that regard. Loved the audio book and will get a paper copy. Bravo Sophie pour un livre inspirant!
