About this listen

Bea Collins is desperate. Her fiancé, Dean, has disappeared, and Bea is sure that he didn’t just walk out on her. In comes the troubleshooter, Hannibal Jones, who is skeptical until he finds the missing man, who is dazed, confused, and accused of a coworker’s bloody murder. Suddenly, Hannibal has a new mission: to prove Dean’s innocence. All evidence points to Dean, but he can’t seem to remember what happened.

To find the truth, Hannibal travels through Dean’s past where he stumbles on evidence linking him to yet another murder. These deaths have destroyed the lives connected to them, and it soon becomes clear that Hannibal will have to solve all three cases in order to save Dean from the death penalty and to prevent further bloodshed.

Yes, Collateral Damage

I did not realize that Collateral Damage was the 3rd in the Hannibal Jones series, and despite this, I found that it definitely can be read as a standalone. Hannibal Jones is a man who lives in a troubled neighborhood by choice and has a strong yet compassionate nature. While hosting a backyard barbecue a domestic abuse victim shows up and asks for Hannibal’s help. The case turns into a seemingly simple missing persons case which turns into murder. Hannibal’s investigation leads him to Washington DC to Germany, and to Las Vegas, and finds that he now has three murders to solve. I loved listening to this book and the further into it the less inclined I was to put it down. The characters are wonderful and relatable, the plot intriguing, the narration excellent. All in all Ioved it. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Thrill ride!

thriller, murder, murder-investigation, family-dynamics, friendship, law-enforcement, lawyers, suspense, action-adventure, crime-fiction, private-investigators*****

His business card reads: Hannibal Jones, Troubleshooter. He is former NYPD homicide, former FBI-Treasury, licensed PI, and was a US army brat raised in the Germany of his mother after his father's death in battle.
The first case comes in courtesy of a friend of one of his young associates and involves spousal abuse. This thread is important to the main case involving a man accused of murdering another in a manner and in surroundings almost exactly like those of the murder of his father ten years prior in which his mother spent ten years in prison. The investigation is extremely convoluted and involves Hannibal's whole crew plus his most favorite lawyer. Excellent read that I HAD to read in one sitting.
The narrator was adequate but hardly enthralling.
I won this audio in a giveaway! Yay me!

Terrific Character in Hannibal Jones!

The Troubleshooter is back for another entertaining story in this one! First Bea’s boyfriend is murdered. Then before Hannibal can blink, he is the prime suspect in a murder. Can Hannibal save him?

Part of what makes Hannibal such a terrific character is his low key attitude. He’s on a different plain from many of the heroes of action/mystery suspense characters. Remaining calm, even in the presence of imminent danger, he tries not to use violent means. He prefers talking. Makes for a unique angle that is captivating.

I can’t wait to read more of this creative series. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. I’m so glad I got it in the audio version since it was a book I wanted to keep reading (listening). You can find my full review at Mystery Suspense Reviews

Wished for better narration

This is the third book in the Hannibal Jones Mystery series, and not having read the prior books in this series, I felt a little lost with respect to some of the characters who were probably introduced in earlier books. I think the characters seemed somewhat flat and could have been developed more fully, but perhaps more details and background were provided in the previous books in this series. The story was fully engaging and nicely concluded in the end.

Neil Reeves performed satisfactorily. I do think the story would have benefitted if it had been read by a more experienced narrator. I caught only 1 noticeable production error and maybe only 1 or 2 mispronunciations.

great story!

Loved the surprise ending. The only knock would be the clunky-ish narration. Thanks Mr. Camacho!
