Publisher's summary
Lisa Scottoline has delivered taut thrillers with a powerful emotional wallop in her New York Times best-sellers Save Me, Think Twice, and Look Again. Now, with her new novel, Come Home, she ratchets up the suspense with the riveting story of a mother who sacrifices her future for a child from her past.
Jill Farrow is a typical suburban mom who has finally gotten her and her daughter's lives back on track after a divorce. She is about to remarry, her job as a pediatrician fulfills her - though it is stressful - and her daughter, Megan, is a happily overscheduled thirteen-year-old juggling homework and the swim team. But Jill’s life is turned upside down when her ex-stepdaughter, Abby, shows up on her doorstep late one night and delivers shocking news: Jill’s ex-husband is dead. Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer. Jill reluctantly agrees to make a few inquiries and discovers that things don’t add up. As she digs deeper, her actions threaten to rip apart her new family, destroy their hardearned happiness, and even endanger her own life. Yet Jill can’t turn her back on a child she loves and once called her own.Come Home reads with the breakneck pacing of a thriller while also exploring the definition of motherhood, asking the questions: Do you ever stop being a mother? Can you ever have an exchild? What are the limits to love of family?

Story
When reporter Ellen Gleeson gets a "Have You Seen This Child?" flyer in the mail, she almost throws it away. But something about it makes her look again, and her heart stops—the child in the photo is identical to her adopted son, Will. Her every instinct tells her to deny the similarity between the boys, because she knows her adoption was lawful. But she's a journalist and won't be able to stop thinking about the photo until she figures out the truth. And she can't shake the question: if Will rightfully belongs to someone else, should she keep him or give him up?

Grab my attention at first, but then got rather boring
First time reading this author, I have another book by her, which I have yet to read. The first few hours were very interesting, and I enjoyed how she had explained the characters and their background but I would say the last third of the book was pretty boring, predictable, and just dragged out to the point where I lost interest. There were a few subplots that I didn’t think really went well with the main plot. I didn’t see the connection and they seemed more like a distraction. The performers were great although the narrator for the middle school child had a very whiny voice that was annoying.

Good story, needs better narration.
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Not sure. I had issues with narrator's interpretation.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Overall story holds your interest with a good story line. Narration however is a distraction.
What didn’t you like about Maggi-Meg Reed’s performance?
Sorry, too dramatic adult voices in places and silly sounding child voice.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointed in the performance

The summary was more interesting than the book
I am half way through the book and I'm wondering where the suspense in supposed to be. I feel like I have to finish it because I just spend 6 hours on it..
I agree with the other reviewers that the crying/screeching at the beginning was very annoying. I don't like this narrator at all.
Also, there seems to be something wrong with this audio book..the end of chapter 31 seems to be missing
I would not recommend this book to anyone.

OMG Lisa Scottoline, what were you thinking??!!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
To make this a 4 or 5 point experience would have it been a Lisa Scottoline book! It was a Jodi Picoult book...and if I'm in that mood, that is what I would have picked!
Has Come Home turned you off from other books in this genre?
What genre is this? Not Ms. Scottoline's. I love Ms Scottoline's books..
What didn’t you like about Maggi-Meg Reed’s performance?
She hurt my ears! She whined, complained and was annoying...Sam should have left her! The girls were annoying also, I wanted one of them to be the killer. I really disliked this performer
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Come Home?
Why did you let her do this. No you shouldn't type cast her to the Rosati woman's Law group, but give me a break on this venture.I would never have bought this novel. It feels like a vanity piece. The best thing was the epilogue where she talked about her curly hair. While listening, I had to keep reminding myself that this was a Lisa Scottoline book and not Jodi Picoult, no disrespect to Picoult, when I'm in that mood. Walter Mosely went off track also (science fiction ), and it also did not work for him, to me. The author should be made stick to what they do best. That's why we come back! Editor, grow a pair, no matter how much $ she makes for you. Lisa, is so much better than this!
Any additional comments?
I just expect more from Lisa Scottoline. She is smart and funny. I saw her speak once at the Edgars Awards. Be the brave, fierce woman writer that you are and bring that back to your characters and your novels (this one was a whiny co-dependent wimp, even Mary would have slapped her)..
.For real, imagine you are in the back seat of a car and an FBI agent asks you for your phone to make a call, like an FBI agent wouldn't have a cel phone, please give me a break!
There are so many holes in this story I can't even deal with that right now. and the back story about poor Raul was getting on my last nerve, of course he would be saved, did anyone doubt it, even while you were in an ER after being run down.
I'm sorry I never rated your former books, I am a big fan and you would have gotten an A plus. I read you in print, by audible, and by e-reader. I'm an avid reader but not an avid rater, however when I see one of my favorite authors go so off the track, I feel I need to speak out. I was so excited about this one coming out, you can only imagine how disappointed I am on the result.

Go home Lisa ... and do some rewrite!
What disappointed you about Come Home?
I can't stand the whining. I taught my kid not to whine from a very early age - I sure didn't want to pay to hear some other kid whine. I love all of the author's legal thrillers. They are well written and full of humor. I also love her two books of short articles. But I couldn't stand this book and I gave it up after a couple of hours (which I almost never do). If the kids have to cry in that book, mentioning it will suffice. I don't want to hear it.

Liked the story - the reader not so much
What would have made Come Home better?
I wish I had read this book rather than listened to it. Lisa Scottoline's books are wonderful, but if you are listening to this one, the reader was disappointing.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the mystery surrounding this story.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
In every way. The narrator whined throughout the book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
My reaction was disappointment.
Any additional comments?
I'm going to pay better attention to the reviews before I purchase another book.
