Critic reviews

"...Hoare, the legendary mercenary commander of Congo fame...does not fit the popular image of the mercenary who will fight for - or against - anyone for money.... In a concise, graphic way, he gives a feeling and flavour to the mercenary soldier that few others ever have...." (Peter Worthington, Editor, Ottawa Sun)

Superb stories from a little known conflict.unlike

Where does Congo Warriors rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Unlike most of the books I listen to this one is a compendium of individual stories; thus making it difficult to rank as it is a ery different type of book. Nevertheless it is. Well done giving the flovor of the war in the Congo and the horrors of African War.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The US soldier who took leave to go to the Congo and find a girl.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it is broken into vignettes and while I listened to several at a sitting the entirety would have been overwhelming.

Any additional comments?

Well worth listening stening to.

Excellent adventure and Stories

As a writer, MAJ Hoare is first rate. His use of language and humor to provide these individual accounts of events in the Congo make them all the more interesting. I cannot say I agree with much of his politics, but if you enjoy reading about unconventional warfare especially in post-colonial Africa or the Congo crises in particular, I highly recommend this book and all his other books on the Congo, at least one of which I have read/listened to twice.

Congo Warriors

Another great book by Col. Mike Hoare. He, and his men of 5 Commando have some extremely interesting stories that I'm very glad to have heard after listening to Congo Mercanaries.

Great stories from real mercenary leader!

Mike Hoare was one of the greatest Mercenary leaders of the 20th Century. This book is a collection of stories about him and his men that he left out of his previous book “Congo Mercenary”. I recommend reading it after that one.
