About this listen

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the popular Black Dagger Brotherhood series comes a brand-new novel about arson investigator Ann Ashburn, who is consumed by her troubled past, her family’s scorched legacy, and her current case: chasing a deadly killer.

Anne Ashburn is a woman consumed....

By her bitter family legacy, by her scorched career as a firefighter, by her obsession with department bad-boy Danny McGuire, and by a new case that pits her against a fiery killer.

Strong-willed Anne was fearless and loved the thrill of fighting fires, pushing herself to be the best. But when one risky decision at a warehouse fire changes her life forever, Anne must reinvent not only her job, but her whole self.

Shattered and demoralized, Anne finds her new career as an arson investigator a pale substitute for the adrenaline-fueled life she left behind. She doesn't believe she will ever feel that same all-consuming passion for her job again - until she encounters a string of suspicious fires setting her beloved city ablaze.

Danny McGuire is a premiere fireman, best in the county, but in the midst of a personal meltdown. Danny is taking risks like never before and seems to have a death wish until he teams up with Anne to find the fire starter. But Danny may be more than a distraction, and as Anne narrows in on her target, the arsonist begins to target her.

From the creator of the bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood, get ready for a new band of brothers. And a firestorm.

A great story...

Loved this. Not as steamy as black dagger brotherhood but the story is still good and well written.

J.R. Ward never disappoints. Performance was superb. I hope this is the first of a series.

Loved it!

This was a phenomenal story that had me completely hooked from the very beginning! I was 100% invested in these characters. I was consumed by Danny and Anne’s relationship/situationship and who was behind all the fires!
The narrators did a great job. I’m really hoping there’s more, because some characters really piqued my interest, and I feel like things are not fully settled with the fires.

Another wonderful book by JR Ward!!!

I love JR Ward! And and this book did not disappoint! All of the cast of characters were so well developed that I felt like I could read their minds! The firefighter storyline is genius and everything that follows the initial fire story I couldn’t wait to get to! Im hoping there are more!!

This is the first 4 narrator book I’ve listened to, and after listening to ALL of the BDB books, I was expecting Jim Frangione, and he’s not the first voice! The other 3, Hilary Huber, Jason Carpenter and Pete Simoneli we’re good as well!!

Unfortunately other reviews made me wait too long.

I should have known better. This is the Warden at her best. I'm a rabid fan of the BDB and the spin off's, which means I also love Jim Frangione. This book was SO much more vibrant because of the multiple narrators. It drew my attention to it more. I know Jim Frangione's voice but it didn't make me think BDB: Which he wholly narrates PERFECTLY. He was amazing!

I loved the story, it had enough of the firefighting to keep me interested but not overblown. The sex is NOT overstated for a romance novel. The twist at the end was marvelous and the entire book was J.R. Ward. Anne overcame her problem in a very well thought out and well timed manner.

Character and plot developement was PERFECTLY timed.

Crisis and conflict was also perfectly well done. Ward does not sink into too much drama that it gets depressing. The rollercoaster ride is perfectly constructed.

I waited and waited to buy this book, I got sucked into the poor reviews and it made me think that this book was not what I would like. I was wrong. This is the epitome of romance, suspense and mystery. She did it again. The amazing thing about her writing? She doesn't fall into the pithy construct of a typical romance. She gives us a story that we can believe while we enjoy it, without writhing in the embarrassment of a 70 page seduction.

I love Soot, I don't love Tom. I hope he redeems himself in more stories because I want him to not be his father.

But Anne and Danny? Were AMAZING.

Once again, thank you J.R. Ward for the gift you give us with your stories. They accompany me through my work day and it's wicked awesome. Write faster, no one compares to you.

Definitely read wedding from Hell first. I absolutely love the new series that JR Ward has written. Great storyline and development of characters as usualand I look forward to the series that follows. Definitely did her research and flawless use of occupational jargon. I was enthralled in the story. I cannot wait for what develops with the other characters.
The great thing about listening to the Audible is that there are four separate readers which I’ve never experienced and it was great to have the distinction of voices for the character.

I loved it! But... *spoilers*

So, I’m crushing on J.r. Ward and the was a great book. But I did have to struggle to stay engaged and finish. I loved the narrators, all fit the characters and I thought so many would bother me, but it worked. And Jim Frangione could ld read me tithe encyclopedia and I’d love it. Great scene building, I’ve never been to the eastcoast but I really was transported. Good character development, I am thoroughly interested in what stories may come. But there was too much of some stuff and not enough of others. The similes and metaphors lost their humor and cleverness at anumber 1357, right around chapter 7....of 56 chapters. So in a a word...overkill. I appreciated the no nonsense female lead and the no bullshit attitude in which see handled everything, even the softer sides...it was really refreshing. And oh, don’t you just love Danny, complex yet consistent...no wish washi, I love her, but let me fuck this other chick...when they were together that was it. But I did feel like it took way too long for our match made in heaven to get together, after 56 chapters I would have liked their relationship to maybe progress past a date and the attrition move in. Overall really good, I will definitely read the next in the series, just hope it gets meatier earlier now that the ground as been laid. sorry for any typos, my iPad keyboard is messing up and blocking this text block and constantly popping it up and down is ridiculous and I’m over it. Tootles
