Critic reviews

“This book embodies lineage. If one can see past the culture and environment, one is given the original map to liberation. As Dudjom Rinpoche himself says, 'This advice is the very blood of my heart. Hold it close and never let it go.'” (Ordinary Mind)

“Renowned Tibetan Buddhist master H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche offers Dharma teachings drawn from an array of subjects. Sharp, forthright, direct—this work is a treasure of heart advice.” (Tricycle)

Very good and sweet

I thought this compilation was great. There's also this profound section on the bardo after death that was explained extremely well.

Content is exceptional, narration is absurd.

The content is authentic, unsurpassable Buddhadharma. The translation is reputable, and the teachings are direct and profound. Unfortunately, the narration is ridiculous. I can forgive the mispronunciations of specialized terms, but the overly dramatic and pseudo-Shakespearean enunciations and dramatizations are ludicrous and distracting. If I were at a dinner theatre watching a campy farce of "The Taming of the Shrew," this diction and rhythm might be suitable, but it is borderline disrespectful for this level of Dharma teaching. It makes me wonder if anyone listened to this before publishing.

Very precious teaching from a great Bodhisattva

This is a very rare and precious teachings from a great meditation master. Dudjom Rinpoche begins by laying out the history of Tibetan Buddhism and then proceeds to articulate the proper aspirations for a Buddhist practitioner. He then progressively unfolds more advance teachings such as the Bardo states. I completely disagree with the comment that the narrator Simon Callow is "campy." His proper English dictions adds gravitas to this important text; very much in keeping in the spirit of Vajrayana.

His direct knowledge of subtle and absolute nature of awareness.

His presentation of the bardo structure was excellent and I believe that it will demystify the death process for a great many beings🙏

Absolutely horrible narration of a wonderful text

The person reading this book does not realize that he is not narrating a National Geographic documentary. Horrible style of reading for such a text! "Over the top" is putting it very mildly.
