About this listen

Beware...this book is cursed! These strange but true stories of the world's most infamous items will appeal to true believers as well as history buffs, horror fans, and anyone who loves a good spine-tingling tale.

They're lurking in museums, graveyards, and private homes. Their often tragic and always bizarre stories have inspired countless horror movies, reality TV shows, novels, and campfire tales. They're cursed objects, and all they need to unleash a wave of misfortune is...you.

Many of these unfortunate items have intersected with some of the most notable events and people in history, leaving death and destruction in their wake. But never before have the true stories of these eerie oddities been compiled into a fascinating and chilling volume.

Good information!

Fantastic book. Well written and well read. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered a hardcover copy so I could go back and reference different objects. 10/10 would recommend.

Worth the listen!

Very informative with a comedic, sarcastic flare. Never thought I’d laugh at a book about curses. Loved it!

Interesting facts - A good rainy day listen!

The book had a sarcastic humor about it that I thoroughly enjoyed & the narrator did a great job at conveying it.

Not a bad way to spend time

Decent overview of the items but got repetitive, like literally the same phrases said multiple times.

Reads like an encyclopedia but with a little humor

I don't know what I was expecting from this book. I suppose I was hoping that it would read more like campfire tales and have a spooky or eerie tone to it. Instead, Cursed Objects reads like an encyclopedia of cursed objects, but the entries are infused with the author's tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. I have been wanting to read or listen to something by J.W. Ocker and Audible offered this book free for a limited time. Perfect! I hear that the physical book has little illustrations of the objects, not pictures, so I think I will pass on buying a copy of this book. Still, the book was short and fun, and I am curious enough about some of the objects mentioned to research more about them.

I will definitely be reading or listening to Ocker's book about cryptids and his book about cults. I just hope that the tone is a little darker in his book about cults, since they actually exist.

Kind of disappointing

I was expecting fun spookiness, but got not so funny to me humor. I feel like there's condescending undertone to it. Making fun of abused child was especially hard to listen. I feel like there's much more material to go deeper into objects' history, everything was very dry and factual. The author did his reasearch, but it felt more like the list of themes to research more later than book that should feed my curiosity. Maybe this is more for those that don't take paranormal seriously because if I don't take it seriously, it's not scary, just boring. And this book was boring to me. The narrator had ok voice and great pronunciation but his narration made condescending undertone much worse.

Decent

For the type of book it is, I give it a solid 4 but the narrator was fantastic.
