Critic reviews

“Roald Dahl sometimes shared a tonal kinship with Ogden Nash, and he could demonstrate a verbal inventiveness nearly Seussian...[His] stories work better in audio than in print.” (The New York Times)

Just stinking amazing

I loved the story. I especially love the part when he said that no father is perfect because my father is really one of the worst fathers out there. I had to read this book back in sixth grade and just listening to it brings back memories.

Danny the champion of the world

I really really really like the the the cool so bow box the code the thing is father made from first birthday that is so cool and I honestly really want it it looks so fun. I also really want the kite the fire the kite the fire balloon and the treehouse the bone arrowand everything else you made it would be so fun to have a father like that. I wish my father word poaching unfortunately my parents arenot very fun they don't really do you anything they didn't make the wicked mad at me that the most stupid reasons for everything all right I just it's just like now I don't really like them at all now so yeah kind of sometimes I kind of wish I was in a different family but who cares right.

I LOVE this book... great for adults (tears)

Had heard of this book but never read it before. I'm pretty hit and miss when it comes to Dahl, some of his works I love, some I just want to bitch slap him. THIS is a LOVE LOVE LOVE... it lacks the zany aspects of some of his work which often is over the top and annoying to adults... this one it feels almost autobiographical and while it promotes some illegal activities, it does a wonderful job or portraying a really loving relationship between a single father and his son... tears I'm telling you, tears...

Good tale of childhood

This is not your typical Dahl book. It is not silly or Imaginative like his other books. It’s a rich story about a boy and his dad. We enjoyed it.

A Wonderful Listen

I really enjoyed this book. For children to adults, the story is very entertaining. It was great fun to listen to. The narrator has a lovely voice and did the characterizations well.

Fun for the whole family 😊

I recommend listening as a family on a road trip or for a couple weeks to and from school. It's fun for everyone and leads to some interesting topics of conversation.
