Publisher's summary

In a brutal world, sometimes forgiving yourself is the hardest part of survival…

Megan Wolford knows surviving this new post-EMP world means facing ever-changing threats. It has been months since Wyatt’s brother Jack was killed, and his newborn son shows signs of an illness no one at the lodge can cure. Megan blames herself for Jack’s death, so when the opportunity to help his son, Jack Jr., arrives in the form of a wounded US soldier guarding a mysterious box, she’ll do anything to redeem herself.

The soldier is desperate to deliver the package to the National Recovery Unit, and Megan agrees to take on the mission in exchange for medical care for Jack Jr. There’s just one problem: Mark Doyle, a ruthless former special ops soldier who would rather die than see the world return to what it was before the strike. Thriving in chaos, Doyle works for what’s left of the U.S. government to fuel his addiction to pain meds, but the last thing he wants is for the box to reach its destination. Delivery could signal the end of this now broken world.

Now, the group must battle their way through a ruined city filled with desperate gangs and scarce supplies to reach the NRU headquarters—all with a sick baby. But getting there will be just the beginning… they’ll soon discover the box contains a secret none of them bargained for.

Now I need to know what happens in the other books

The.book summary kinda says it all.
I have not listened to/read any other books in the series, yet, I did not have difficulty getting into this book. It mentioned enough about previous events that it gave me a rudimentary understanding as to what has happened to these characters in the past.
I enjoyed how the characters dealt with the post-EMP world, and think it was quite realistic. The book is full of great ideas for shelter, sustainable food supply, etc. There are a few twists in the story that kept me interested, and because it is a series, the end is a cliffhanger. I would love to get my hands on the other books!

The only negative I feel about this book is that the character Megan repeats too frequently how everything will be fine if she can just get the baby medical care. I understand she feels responsible for everyones safety and needs to accomplish something so she feels redeemed, but, it did become repetitive. I understand she is the focus of the series though.

The narrator did a great job and offered different voices for each character. He did very well with female voices. I would listen to another book narrate by him.

There is no explicit sex or violence or swearing.

5th in EMP Series

I am really enjoying this series as has great characters and prepping. It is about survival after solar flare/EMP. The main character of Megan is basically a gutsy woman but has a good heart but many other likeable characters such as Rosie, Wyatt, and Duke (dog) to name a few. This one is about saving JJ, Willow’s son who is sick and born prematurely and having to travel in a city in search of a hospital. I really enjoyed seeing Emma again now have to listen to next to find out about Albert and what happens to the lodge. Highly recommend reading/listening to all 4 prior books to really get to know the characters. Recommend to anyone who likes Dystopian. I was given this audiobook by author and have voluntarily left this review THANK YOU!

I really like this series!

I liked book 4 but I really loved this book. I really feel like I've gotten to know these characters. They are very well-written. This book has a lot of action in it which I really like but still kept with the theme and the development of the characters. I would think that is hard to do?
Bonus:
There is some excellent advice in the beginning of this book on gardening. No, not in a boring way, but I actually took time to go back and listen to the chapter after finishing the book; to see if I can pick up some tidbits about natural ways to cure problem is like bugs etc.. Who would've known that a series could have such good tips and still keep with the storyline and Be packed to the action-adventure? Every book has a little bit of excellent information in it without sounding preachy.

I'm very glad that Grace stuck with Andrew Tell for the narration of the series he does a great job and these books would not be the same without him.

wonderful series

The 5th book in this series is just as good as the previous 4! This one focuses on trying to get help for Willow and Jack's baby JJ and helping America recover. One thing I love about these books is the prepper knowledge and skills you learn along the way. There are many heart wrenching moments and what a cliff hanger at the end!

Good EMP Series

This is Grace Hamilton's 5th installment in the EMP Lodge series. This is a series that you really need to read or hear from the start to understand the characters or most of what is going on in this audiobook will not make sense. The Lodge group is trying to save baby JJ and once again Megan is being a Martyr trying to do everything and blaming herself for Jacks death and the only way to redeem herself will be to save the baby. No matter the cost. On a return trip from hunting for medications for the baby, they find a wounded soldier with a mysterious box that needs to go to the National Recovery Unit near Ravenna which just so happens to have the best of everything in doctors and equipment. So the group splits up to take the baby and the box to the NRU while the others stay at the lodge. This is a pretty good series with plenty of action. The characters are well developed. I highly recommend it.

Andrew Tell narrates again and does an awesome job. It is so nice to have the same narrator through a whole series.

Tame, but enjoyable, post-EMP/survival adventure.

It's been more than a year since the EMP changed Megan's world and everyone's way of life. The group occupying the lodge is eking out a difficult, yet peaceable, existence, except new baby JJ is not well -- he needs serious medical intervention that has, thus far, been impossible to find. A potentially dangerous outsider offers a chance, albeit a slim one, of accessing medical care for JJ. The journey towards hope will be a tremendous task for Megan and her friends, and it will risk all of their lives. How far should they push their luck, and who, if anyone, can they trust along the way?

I enjoyed this installment of the EMP Lodge series. As far as post-apocalyptic stories go, it's fairly tame. Plenty of ''right vs. wrong'' and ''good vs. evil'' scenarios.  Narration by Andrew Tell serves as an enhancement to the story, with a pleasant voice and tone. Overall, pretty good! I plan to continue on with the remainder of the series.
