Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love...

Book One of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy

Dark Witch

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself - and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope - and love - alive...

Loved It

I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the remaining two audiobooks in this series. I thought the narrator was good though I did think she got a bit carried away at times.

Good Read

This is my first Nora Robert's book and I enjoyed it. I have to read more in this series though, because I need to know what comes next.
I loved the main characters and their story was well written, but over too soon.

Enjoyed the narrator!

Not my favorite Nora Roberts, but not bad.

I wonder if I would have liked it more if I had read it and not listened to it. I can't decide what to think about the narrator. She really gives it her all, especially with the spell casting and such, but she almost gives too much. At times it felt like being yelled at and if I hear "so mote it be" one more time, I might rip my ears off. This is coming from someone who loves witchy supernatural books. It just felt overused and overdone at times. I'd say a story worth listening to, just not one that grabbed me and kept me hanging on every word. Just ok or good, but not as good as many other books by this author. Sorry. :( I hate leaving less than stellar reviews for good authors.

What a narration

The story was ok. The main character was a little wordy and can go on and on but the narrator is the one that takes center stage. She made parts of the story line sound more interesting than they actually were with her upbeat and often breathless voice.

I really enjoyed this audiobook of "Dark Witch".

I enjoyed the transition from the 13th century to present day, back and forth throughout the story. The narration was ok, but could have been better. The deeper I get into it, the better the story gets.

Narration

Katherine Kelly fine was a lovely and talented trained actress. She specialized in accents and regional dialects. Her detractors like!y did not know that there are different ways of speaking in different parts of Ireland just like in Amerjca

well read, fairly interesting

Would you listen to Dark Witch again? Why?

You can't be too hard on this book. It's whimsical, romantic, sweet, Irish, and well written. I would definitely listen to it again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Boyle. The inner struggle and reserved love he has for Iona is mesmorizing

Another great book, terrible narrator

I was very excited to get this audiobook because I work 10 hour shifts and an audiobook is a great way to pass the time. I had read the book before and it is honestly one of my favorite trilogy's by Nora Roberts. However, after listening to it it reminds me a lot of her other series based in Ireland. Similar character descriptions and personalities which is a bit repetitive especially if you consider reading other books of the same author.
My biggest disappointment for the audiobook was the narrator. Her pitch and volume were very off a lot of the time and the biggest part that irritated me was her voice when she voiced The women. The ladies in this book are great beings in the prime of their lives and the narrator voiced them as if they were 50 year of Irish housekeepers. I am not sure I will buy the other two books in the trilogy unless they have a different narrator.

Wonderful, mystical fun

I enjoyed this book immensely! The story is full of magic, great lovable characters, and the reader is fantastic. The story kept moving nicely. The standard fall for each other, argument, get back together was nicely done without being overly long or bitter. And the romance vs story balance, that so many books fail at, was very nicely balanced so that the story could have almost stood on it's own without the added benefit of the relationship.

Definately worth the time and credit invested in this book, author and reader. Enjoy!
