About this listen

Two witches, one haunted house...and a dash of murder. Will Lucy find the killer in time? Or will she be Buttercup's next resident ghost?

It's Halloween in Buttercup, Texas, and reporter-turned-farmer Lucy Resnick is up to her ears in more than goats and wayward cows. Not only has her well dried up, but it turns out the old house Lucy recently moved to has a reputation for spooks...and they are disturbingly active. Then a tarot card reading at a local mead winery foretells death...and minutes later, exotic game ranch owner Bug Wharton goes belly-up. Cause of death? Murder, by a fatal dose of bee venom.

When the dimwitted sheriff fingers local witch and mead winery owner Serafine Alexandre, Lucy gets involved...and soon discovers that all kinds of things are brewing in Buttercup.

And some of them are deadly.

More Superstition than witchcraft and fantasy.

(As posted in Goodreads)
Not really a witch book, but there is a lot of superstition and lore. It's interesting and close enough to fantasy and witches to keep them a possibility for the story. I wasn't sure whether to give it 3 or 4 stars, but I've made the decision, and I guess I'll stand by it.

Mysterious and Heartwarming

I Loved it! Mysterious, interesting, funny, heartwarming, and with a little romance all rolled into this wonderfully written and narratored book. Well worth sharing, and I look forward to finding more from this author and narrator.

Great Book

I'm so glad an audio version of this book is finally available. The characters and plot are well developed and the story moves at a quick pace. What makes this book and the others in this series so good are the cast of characters. Lucy and all of her friends are very realistic and engaging. Lucy may be noisy, but, it makes sense because of her back ground as a reporter. This is a very enjoyable series and I look forward to the next book. As always, Karen White does a great job as narrator.

Can’t wait for the next one

Karen MacInerney has written a series that reached out and grabbed me from the start of the first in the series. The characters are well developed and believable. Karen White gave an excellent performance as she brought it all to life. If you like action packed cozy mysteries then this one is for you.

Horrible editing esp along series

It’s ok- but ... def not great. Narrator good on male voices, not so female characters. Proofing/editing horrible.

RESOLUTION

Perhaps Jed and Rooster should go. The lack of resolution is tiring. New problematic characters can be created.

Not my favorite of the series

First of all the change in narrator was so frustrating! I am not sure why the narrator of the first two couldn’t continue, but unfortunately this woman was a big step down when it came to pronunciation and variation in characters. I have never in my life heard anyone pronounce the name Tobias “Toe-bias” and it drove me batty. Toe-bias?!? And then the story line of the big game ranch was definitely not my favorite. I know those horrible places exist but to think to write a cozy mystery around the topic surprised me. And the number of times they pointed out that it was horrible yet legal was a little repetitive. I very rarely write negative reviews but this one didn’t do it for me. The positives were that I enjoyed the diversity in the new characters of the sisters from New Orleans and their Wiccan practices and French speaking as well as their winery and witches’ ball. I listened to this in October and it was perfect timing in that way. Makes me want to go to a winery. I will continue these books in series order but much preferred listening to books one and two over this one.
