Publisher's summary

PARENTS: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

Greg Fitzsimmons has made a lot of what appear to be bad decisions. It's what he was raised to do. Most parents would hide or destroy any evidence so clearly demonstrating their child's failures, but - lucky for us - Greg Fitzsimmons's family has preserved each mistake in its original envelope like a trophy in a case, lest he ever forget where he came from.

Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons is Greg's life, told through this cavalcade of disciplinary letters, incident reports, and newspaper clippings that his parents received from teachers and school officials. Greg picks up where his parents left off with his own collection of letters received during college and throughout his successful career as a writer, producer, and stand-up comic. Revealing the larger story of how Greg's distinctly dysfunctional Irish-American family bred him to blindly challenge anyone, anytime, anywhere, over anything, Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons comes full circle to show that the Fitzsimmons torch has been passed on proudly to a new generation.

Awesome premise

A very funny book.

The author's road rage stories are what stood out the most.

I'd recommend this to anyone who loves comedy.

Funny and very entertaining.

Funny man gives insight into his life growing up in an Irish family, and his life as an adult. I found myself laughing out loud a lot while enjoying this book. Good, clean, light humor. Would recommend it to just about everyone.

Very entertaining and honest.

Overdue review by long-time fan

I've been a fan of Fitzdog since the mid-2000s. Now that I finally got around to listening to his book, it is everything I expected and more. I would have given the performance five stars had not been for the technical drawbacks for some of his guest readers. Still, it's fun hearing his comedy friends share in reading. This book reflects Greg's talent and experience as a writer. Many comedy fans might know that many comedians don't enjoy writing books, let alone recording them. Greg stands out as among the best.

Great narrative

I really like the way Greg put his memoir together. I listen to his podcast, and so I'm familiar with -- and appreciate -- his self-deprecating sense of humor and world view. But this audiobook gave me such a wonderful look at his life. He's such an open book here: he exposes himself, his family (lucky them) and his insecurities... in a funny way. He's a genius and this audiobook is, too.

Lots of laughs and lots of heart

Greg is a great stand up comedian. This book also shows off that his years at BU getting an English degree were not wasted--even though he may have been--as he can definitely write well. I love his stories and his tone. I laughed a lot but he also got me to well up a bit talking about his family and his struggles. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
