About this listen

First came Murder at Pride Lodge, where murder met mayhem in the Pennsylvania countryside. Next was Pride and Perilous, the collision of high art and low death at Manhattan's Katherine Pride Gallery. And now, the Pride Trilogy concludes with Death by Pride. It's Gay Pride weekend, the most festive weekend of the year in New York City. Hundreds of thousands of partygoers arrive to show the world how to have a good time.

Stalking the party is the most successful serial killer the city has ever seen. He claims his victims in threes and has just begun his newest spree. Detective Linda Sikorsky comes to town to visit Kyle Callahan and his husband Danny Durban. It's her first Pride Parade and may well be her last. Harmless fun turns to terror in a frantic effort to stop the killer once the first body floats to the river's edge. This time it's personal, and this time one of them might not make it out alive.

good book

This book was good read.
Maybe to was in late of what happened in Fl, but i thought the hunt for a pride serial killer would be what I needed.
I loved the main characters they where very likable. I even liked the small interaction with their kitties. they all have feelings and problems of their own, that did revole around the pride killer. I thought they were a little crazy for trying to find out who the killer was without the help of the police, but man I am glad they did.
Now hearing the thoughts and actions of the killer was a little weird. He creeped me out. ( i know he was suppose too) i wanted to kick his butt. this was a fast paced book that started off a little slow getting to know the characters but picked up soon!

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator for an unbiased review via Audio Boom..

A stunning performance of a fine mystery!

What made the experience of listening to Death by Pride the most enjoyable?

K.C. Kelly's narration quite frankly was brilliant! His performance and inflections of the characters was spot on, but it was his creepy, surreal depiction of serial killer, Dietrich Keller that brought this novel to life!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Death by Pride?

K.C. Kelly's performance of psycho serial killer, Dietrich Keller.

Have you listened to any of K.C. Kelly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I will certainly seek him out!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Frankly, every reading that involved serial killer, Dietrich Keller.

Any additional comments?

A well written, perfectly spaced mystery told in three-povs; Kyle Callahan, an amateur sleuth; his partner/husband Danny Durban, and owner of a high end restaurant that figures centrally in the story; and the diabolical, psycho serial killer, Dietrich Keller. Highly recommended.

Death by Pride: Kyle Callahan Mysteries, Book 4

“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”

I am sorry to say I missed the first two books in this trilogy. I approached this as a stand alone since I didn't find out about the first two books until I finished this one.

The characters were personable, even the antagonist could be likable if you ignore the fact he was a predator and serial killer. The author hides nothing from the listener, while building suspense to the end.Lots of twists in the plot to keep the story flowing.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

Serial Killer stalks VictimsVS Detective and Sleuth

Where does Death by Pride rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is suspenseful and entertaining. Add well narrated. It's a winner

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kyle Callahan, he's the one who moves other characters to act in the story, in my opinion.

Have you listened to any of K.C. Kelly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't had the pleasure of hearing other work by K.C.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The inevitable search for Keller and eventual confrontation with him. What moved me was empathy with the characters though.

Any additional comments?

Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook. The story is strong. I was familiar with the characters from reading Mark McNease's Kindle series. The narration was very good. A narrator can make or break an otherwise good book. K.C. Kelly added much with good voice characterizations and dramatic reading without resorting to odd voice or other gimmicks. Good choice.

Neat Narrative

Overall I liked the story. The most likable element is that the characters are presented in a way to make you care about them and their relationships are interesting and believable. What I liked least was that the narrative is a little too neatly knit together, too carefully aligned to make the mystery and its resolution seem forced, not enough jagged edges to give it a strong sense of realism. Still, I liked it.

The narration was professional with the words clearly stated and characters well distinguished. A point of contention is that narrator consistently inserted pauses in places which seemed deliberate on his part (establishment of unique style perhaps). This proved to be a serious and constant distraction for me. Here are a couple of examples.
"… And begin to look around… (pause) as if they were tourist…"
"He looked around the restaurant and was pleased (pause) with what he saw."

I did not like this mystery. It reads as if the author is trying too
hard to be pro -gay to sell a serial
killer mystery tied to NYC 's annual Pride weekend. All characters are way too lovey dovey and the details we slog through include cat treats while the killer's short, walk on appearances are really dull. Safe to read if you want to avoid gote.

Scary good!

OK, so I reeeeally hate getting into the head of a sadistic serial killer. Aside from that, this was a tightly crafted incredibly engrossing suspenseful mystery which totally bypassed the NYPD. The denouement was a horrible, terrible, no good, very bad, nail biter!

K.C. Kelly is simply too good at audio portraying the villain. He is very good at capturing the essences of the other characters as well.

Gripping

Mark McNease is growing as an author. I have enjoyed his books but this one really is a page turner. Where as the protagonist is typically in the right place at the right time for mystery solving, he instead seeks out this mystery making it more believable. The vocal artist is also great!

A stunner of an ending

The events that began at Pride Lodge come to a riveting conclusion. Ably narrated, these characters seem like old friends you just want to spend more time with as they hunt a cunning serial killer during Pride Week in NYC.
