He slips into their homes at night and walks silently into bedrooms where women lie sleeping, unaware of the horrors they soon will endure. The precision of the killer's methods suggests he is a deranged man of medicine, propelling the Boston newspapers and the frightened public to name him "The Surgeon". The cops' only clue rests with another surgeon, the victim of a nearly identical crime. Two years ago, Dr. Catherine Cordell fought back and killed her attacker before he could complete his assault.

Narration takes away from the story
I really tried to get into this book, but I just couldn't. The narration was just so bad it made it impossible to enjoy it. The character voices were terrible and the way he pronounced certain words grated on my nerves. The premise of the book is intriguing enough that I may try it in print, but I just couldn't get through it as an audio book. I stopped and started this book 3 times in the hopes that something would have changed, but nope, couldn't do it.

Another cool case for Byone
What made the experience of listening to Death on Canal Street the most enjoyable?
Great narration and characters are all I could have hoped for. I love this series and Byone as the noir detective now has his partner on his cases that only makes it more fun and enjoyable. This story was so good I hoped it would not end. I can't get enough of this series. I highly recommend it. This series gets better and better
I was really looking forward to listening to this audiobook and it delivered. I was able to keep up much better in this book. I admit to not being able to keep all the characters straight in his other books but this one kept the count down which was a great thing for my listening brain. A big surprise in the end was a great asset to peaking my interest.
I am much more used to the narrator now, but I'm never going to really cotton to him. I think he is talented, but not my cup of tea. His French is a bit forced but better than his Italian. And as always, his voice is too soft for me to reconcile it with Moses.
The 'scenery' was great as always and one my favorite characters is New Orleans. I look forward to more!

A Thrilling Series
If you could sum up Death on Canal Street in three words, what would they be?
It really delivers!
What other book might you compare Death on Canal Street to and why?
I think the only time I compare books is when they are ranked horribly. This isn't the case and it stands alone, basking in its own power.
Have you listened to any of Nicholas Patrella’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Not yet. I plan to listen to The Cemetery Paintings next though; same author, previous book in the series.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were multiple twists that made me say, "What?! Rewind and listen again!"

The Voodoo Detective Returns. Returning with Armond Fontenot, His Antique Dealer Friend and now partner, they move on the edge of the dark side as they work to uncover the mysteries surrounding their clients death
Not only is the case layers deep but as always has an unexpected twist as they try to unwind the story.
Patrella’s narration makes the story a great listen.

Too rambling
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Characters not developed enough.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Started out well but got to rambling with too many French pronunciations
Have you listened to any of Nicholas Patrella’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Could you see Death on Canal Street being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No
