Very enjoyable

The characterizations, as usual, are top notch. Many of the characters are clergy, so it gives this one a different flavor. The narrator is better than he was in #6.

Death's Door

Excellent plot. Billy and Kaz shine. Narration is spot on. Benn's devotion to timeline is appreciated.

Loved it

Another Billy Boyle ripper. James R. Benn has got my number. This time from occupied Rome in Vatican City. A fun summer listen by the pool.

Not the best writing, but an ok listen

A detective during War is a fun little premise . The writing is ok but entertaining. I find LT Boyle overly dramatic in an annoying way at times that doesn’t quite jibe with his detective persona, bit a fun easy listen nonetheless the less.

I

Another Hit!

Can't wait to start the next volume. Billy Boyle delivers again!!
The narrator was good pleasant voice, (have read the books up to now this is the first one I have heard on Audible) but he slips from accent to accent as he sometimes slips with a German accent to an Irish one or Italian to etc. Not knocking him, hard wk . Very entertaining. Benn is a master story teller

Not worth listening

The story is so slow I found myself not paying attention. I hate not finishing a book whether reading or audio. This is the exception.

Awful Narration

I was hoping the new narrator (his first book narrating the Billy Boyle series was the previous one - A mortal terror) would have made some improvements in his second chance. If anything, it was worse. There is very little distinction between his character voices. If there is quick conversation you simply have to guess who is who because the narrator is awful. I finished this book simply because of the story. I wish they wouldn’t have turned the series over to this guy. I would never listen to another book where he is the narrator outside of the Billy Boyle books. I will begrudgingly continue listening due to loyalty to the characters.
