About this listen

Colonial Mining Authority agent Natalia Hallowell doesn't always play by the rules, but she wouldn't compromise a case, either. Put on administrative leave under a cloud of accusation, with no support from her boss, Natalia seeks a little anonymous companionship at her favorite bar. But she's surprised when the woman who catches her fancy starts buying her drinks.

Desperate, Genevieve "Gennie" Caine has no choice but to seduce, drug, and tie Natalia to the bed to get her attention. With the Reyes Corporation after something she has, Gennie needs Natalia to open an investigation and distract them long enough for her to get off Nevarro.

Natalia doesn't trust Gennie - despite the growing attraction between them - but the corporation's suspiciously high profits and abnormal business dealings convince her that they must be hiding something. She has no idea just how deep the deceptions run....

Remarkable

This is the first time I have ever read this author. I wasn’t expecting to like this book, but I was very excited to say that I enjoyed it. Thanks for the great book. Off to my next adventure.

Great story

Would you consider the audio edition of Deep Deception to be better than the print version?

Since I read lesbian fiction extensively and I'd never heard of this author, I was skeptical and wonderfully surprised to find a really good story here. The narrator was flat in places, but not really enough to detract from the story. I would definitely recommend this audiobook.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

yes

Amazing Story, Awful Narrator

At it's heart, this is a romance novel. That said, it is SO much more. There is a solid mystery and real action in this book. The characters are layered and deep. I found myself on the edge of my seat several times throughout this book. On average, I listen to about 1 hr 40 min a day. I finished all 7 hrs and 49 min of this novel in 3 days. I couldn't, as they say, put it down. I can't wait to listen to the other novel in this universe.

I have only two very small complaints. The first is that there is a tense scene that could easily have had some action. I understand why Pegau didn't go that route here as it could have complicated the plot quite a bit, and she did make up for it with plenty of action later. The second is that a tertiary character suffers a major tragedy and it would have been wonderful to explore that, but it is only used as a emotional bonding point for our heroes. That makes sense, as this is a romance novel, but there's no reason to not have explored that.

Rachel Green is, in a word, terrible. She's not the worst narrator I've come across, but she's damn close. She sounds like a woman (not a professional voice actor) reading from a text for the first time. Seriously, was there only time for one take? She runs narration into dialogue, has no understanding of cadence and timing, uses the exact same voice for ALL of the characters, and is boring to listen to. She made hot lesbian sex scenes boring to listen to. That's almost an accomplishment in and of itself.

If you can get past Green's narration (or have no time to read, like myself) this is an awesome story, even if you're not into romance novels. If you have some time to actually read, pick up the print version.

Monotone

This is actually a pretty good book, it has action, suspense, obviously romance, an intriguing story, and good character work. Much better than I was expecting.

The problem is that the narrator is very monotone and it takes away from the experience.

Not Great

I managed to get to the end of this book with minimal interruptions for lame, uninteresting pages of bad plot and weak prose. Although I have to admit that if it weren't for the lesbian theme there is no way I'd have stuck with it.

Second listen. Still Stellar.

The narrator does great in some parts. In others, she sounds bored. I suspect it has more to do with an attempt to indicate "cool" and "nonchalance". Otherwise, though there are a couple "scenes," they aren't too graphic. The story has a good arc, good character development, and, when the narrator wasn't distracting/annoying me, a complete, full story that, despite its length, did not contain errors of contrivance. I hope this author tries again, just with either a matured or altogether different narrator. Side note on narrator: she wasn't horrible. I liked the sound effects as they related to human interaction. I knew when the captain or Garcas or other, nonessential characters were speaking.

Will Deception Lead to Love

Agent Natalia Hallowell is put on leave after she’s suspected of taking a bribe while undercover. When she stops at her favorite bar she picks up a woman who drugs her and ties her to the bed seeking her aid investigating the Reyes Corporation. Gennie Caine is running from the Reyes family because she has something they want. Not trusting each other but drawn to each other they go undercover in the mines to investigate. A marvelous adventure with drama and romance. Great performance. Recommend.

Deep Deception is a Suprising Good Story!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES! I was surprised at how much I liked the story and the interaction between the two women. And besides being a nice lesbian romance story it's a good science fiction/mystery action thriller that is like a hard roller coaster ride with twist you don't see coming.

What did you like best about this story?

First that it wasn't predictable, it had nice twist to it that kept surprising you. Second it was a lovely romance story between a cop done wrong by the system trying to get her life back on track and back to being a cop and a women with a shady past that was trying to make some of the black marks against her go away because not all of them were her doing and she had other now to think off. Even though they are both women you can see how they must depend on one another but how also they both fall for the other one with out ever trusting them fully.

Which character – as performed by Rachel Green – was your favorite?

The cop, She was tough but tender, kind of a marshmallow inside. I liked how the story let us into her head and let us know what she was thinking and feeling. The fact she couldn't figure out why her boss was out to get her, just the whole POV from her eyes was nice.

If you could take any character from Deep Deception out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The Cop and it's because I liked they way her mind worked. Her honor, and her honesty. I would love to go out for pizza and a beer with her and just talk about her world and how it works, why she became a cop. Just everything about the world she lived in and her.

Any additional comments?

This surprised me at how good it was and how much fun it was to listen too. They have good deal if you buy the book first the audio. So my advice is to do it that way because it's cheaper and you have both to listen and read.

Down with the Void. If you want to live

R. Green brings the characters to a new plateau of life. There romace and adventure and betrayal of the worst kind. Slow burn of excitement and romance but it keep you in.
