About this listen

There's no leverage like seduction...until love takes a bite of his plans.

As the Indiana Jones of historical erotica, there is no document existing - or just rumored to exist - Adin Tredeger can't unearth. Why he would risk the biggest coup of his career to join the mile-high club is beyond him. But the disarming, dark-eyed man who somehow enters Adin's locked airplane washroom has him completely nude and coming apart. All without a whimper of protest.

From that moment Adin and Donte Fedelta engage in an international battle of wit and cunning. The prize - a priceless, 500-year-old journal with illustrations so erotic it could make the Marquis de Sade blush. Yet Donte's desire for the journal goes far beyond simple possession. The undead nobleman wrote it. And he's not above using every trick in his otherworldly arsenal - including seduction - to get it back.

Chemistry draws them together even as fortune tugs them apart. But when a third party joins the chase, they must unite to fight an enemy with a deadly goal - to erase Donte from history.

This audiobook is a rerelease of a previously published book, with substantial rewrites. This title was originally released as Notturno.

Warning: This product contains one cocky college professor, one centuries-old vampire who is out to show him who's at the top of the food chain, and red wine. Because it goes so well with humble pie.

Titillating and Dark

The love, the sexiness, the intrigue and secrets, not to mention the dive into the dark paranormal world is absolutely delightful! I feel the need to dive further now!

Reviews can simultaneously help and hinder

I enjoyed this book...I even found the opening scene in the airplane bathroom to be delicious 😏...a scene that a previous reviewer described as male on male rape. Just goes to show that we all have different opinions as we all come from different walks of life -- one person's view of rape is another person's view of seduction....

So I will always take reviews with a grain of salt.

The author is not new to me, I think she is one of the few who with few words can still make you feel exactly what is going on in a scene - for instance in most of her smexy scenes I can still get hot and bothered even though the scenes aren't long and drawn out and lack the use of outright explicit language - and sometimes I like it verrrry explicit 😉

Caleb Dickinson (looks like his last name is misspelled for this book) is a new performer for me...he reminds me a little of Aiden Snow but he still has his own charms. I was impressed with his Italian accent - as only an American born female can be lol....he brought this book to life and I can honestly say I enjoyed it more because of him.

Another reviewer said the vampire Donte was self absorbed and the human nerdy - I am on board with this opinion and because of this I can't give this book the 5 stars it probably deserves. I have become used to the possessive - touch or come near my human and die - type of vampire romance so I couldn't get those kind of delicious thrills and feels from this book. I understand it is 3 parts and there was a set up in this book that lets you know maybe Donte will get to that level of desperate love that Adin so clearly wants but I inwardly winced a bit at his multiple admissions of love to Donte and Donte kept asking him "why?" This kinda killed any enthusiasm I might have had to continue this series - a series that I am not sure it deserves... I feel this book really didn't need to be split in 3. Maybe 2, but not 3.

4 stars - I probably won't listen again

lowest score I can give,

couldn't get far, but couldn't return. i need to stop buying audio til I am ready to listen to it. Vampire voice such a low volume I could not listen without turning volume up so loud that the main character's voice blew my ears out. Who knows how the story is.

Did not finish

If I was more distracted, I might have finished this. It started off a little askew and I kept listening for a while wondering if the skew was feature or bug. I eventually decided it was a bug. I lost patience at the 500 year old grudge. Like, if you haven’t taken one another down by now, either you can’t or you don’t want to. Get on with your life and stop thinking like a teenager. Also, what kind of timed threat is “if you don’t respond by midnight exactly, I will kill my hostage as slooowwwwwllllyyyy as possible” so hurry up in case I start the 3 month long killing process? It makes no sense. But not in the way that a 500 year old should not make sense.

I like weird things. I liked the concept of this story. I liked a good portion of the setup of this story. But ultimately, this wasn’t my kind of weird. The narrator was good (had a “transylvania-ish” accent for our main vamp that I found charming) and the production quality is good so if this is your kind of weird, have at it.

Fun Read

This was a very fun read. The characters are well developed and show depth. The story is well written and keeps you engaged. It is a lighthearted gay vampire romance well worth the time and effort to read!

Desire Died...

I am not a fan of the 'doormat' trope. Adin was just TSTL at times and didn't seem to care that he was being used. He walks right into trouble all of the time and didn't seem to want to be careful even after he discovered that vampires existed. Donte was too creepy to me even for a vampire. Seems like Edward multiplied. The manuscript storyline didn't really make a lot of sense and I'm having a hard time understanding what Santos' role in this series is. I'm a Maxfield fan from way back, but I think that I avoided this book when it was originally published for this very reason. I hope some of the other stories I've read are audio book bound. I would love to listen to the books I actually like.

Narrator comments: Caleb Dickenson is a great choice of narrator for this series, his deep voice and variety of accents were excellent. I had no problem distinguishing any of the characters.

Narrator was only so so

The story was ok, but the narrator just didn’t do it for me. He did ok with the voices, but when it came to straight narration it just fell flat.
