Publisher's summary
It was just another after-work happy-hour bar downtown, where business professionals unwound with a few drinks, complained about the boss, maybe hooked up with someone for the night. Until something went terribly wrong. At first it was just a friction in the air. The noise intensified. The crowd seemed oppressive. Some sharp words were exchanged, some pushing and shoving.
Then the madness descended. And after 12 minutes of chaos and violence, 80 people lay dead.
Eve Dallas is trying to sort out the inexplicable events. Surviving witnesses talk about seeing things - monsters and swarms of bees. They describe sudden, overwhelming feelings of fear and rage and paranoia. When forensics makes its report, the mass delusions make more sense: it appears the bar patrons were exposed to a cocktail of chemicals and illegal drugs that could drive people into temporary insanity - if not kill them outright.
But that doesn’t explain who would unleash such horror - or why. Eve’s husband, Roarke, happens to own the bar, yet he’s convinced the attack wasn’t directed at him. It’s bigger than that. And if Eve can’t figure it out fast, it could happen again, anytime, anywhere. Because it’s airborne....

Story
Northern Ireland, spring 1981. Hunger strikes, riots, power cuts, a homophobic serial killer with a penchant for opera, and a young woman’s suicide that may yet turn out to be murder: on the surface, the events are unconnected, but then things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. Detective Sergeant Duffy is the man tasked with trying to get to the bottom of it all. It’s no easy job—especially when it turns out that one of the victims was involved in the IRA but was last seen discussing business with someone from the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force.

Just when you think it's over, it's not
Which scene was your favorite?
I don't want to give it away, so I'll just say the last scene was my favorite.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Eve's dream about her mom and Mavis's daughter moved me. It seemed a pivotal point for Eve. Her parents were monsters, and it seems she made headway coming to terms with what she went through as a child.

Continuing superb tradition, does not disappoint.
What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Susan Ericksen is a master of the voice of the characters. While I read many books, I would not want to sacrifice hearing the various individuals in the story. It truly enhances the mystery and the experience.

J.D. Robb at her BEST!
Would you consider the audio edition of Delusion In Death to be better than the print version?
Susan Ericksen makes the characters come alive! It is amazing how many voices she can do. No detail goes unnoticed by Susan Ericksen, right down to Roarke's accent.
What did you like best about this story?
I felt that in the last two books Eve had become a little weaker than she was before. In this book she is back in full force. A force to be reckoned with!
Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?
I have to say I just love the voice of Roarke. If ever they put J. D. Robb's books into a movie or series I would have trouble hearing any voice but the one Ms. Ericksen has created!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! I usually finish all of J. D. Robb's book in one, no more than two days. I constantly walk around all day with my Ipod on. Which causes me to constantly look for new authors!
Any additional comments?
The In Death books should really be listened to from the first on up in the series although you can follow along with any book you decide to listen to. You get a better idea of the characters' dynamics if you start with the first and work your way up. Wonderful series. J. D. Robb is a very fast writer compared to most but I wish she would write a little faster so I don't have to look for new authors.
Thank you Ms. Robb/Roberts of the hours of pure entertainment you have given to the world of readers/listeners.

Another homerun!
What made the experience of listening to Delusion In Death the most enjoyable?
Susan Ericksen. I love the characters that inhabit each of the "In Death" novels, and she brings them to life for me.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Delusion In Death?
The description of the carnage created by the drug let loose really made me care about catching the culprit.
What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
It's like listening to a play. She is my favorite narrator. She makes each character so individual and unique. Sometimes I re-listen to stories just to hear Roarke's Irish accent. She also gives pathos and emotion to scenes that make me care just a little bit more. She truly is a consummate artist and a very gifted storyteller.
Any additional comments?
I love this series. Granted, some books have been more powerful for me than others, but overall, I love Eve and Roarke and those who inhabit their lives. They feel like friends and very real.

Another Sick-o Bites the Dust--actually two
Serial killers have nothing on the mass murderer in this In Death book --and the killer never even gets his hands bloody. But Grandma's little darling is a fanatic after the old girl's fanatical heart. As always, the main characters--Dallas, Peabody, Roarke & all are the best part of all the In Death books. Then again, the chemical nightmare dispersed into the air of popular establishments is the thing of nightmares...and entirely too possible nowadays.

The red horse
Who would have ever thought that an after-work happy hour would lead to over eighty deaths? The carnage at the scene is overwhelming and shocking. Who is behind this horrendous act, is it a terrorist attack? Those are some of the questions Lt. Eve Dallas must find answers to. Everyone is shocked at the sheer sight of the carnage including the owner of the bar, Roarke, billionaire husband of Lt. Dallas.. The two working together with her squad and friends must hurry to find answers before the perpetrator(s) strike again. Another action and suspense filled book in the In Death series. Insightful personal revelations and sparks of humor round out this thriller. J D Robb has written another great masterpiece, as she never fails to entertain. Susan Erickson delivers yet another sterling narration. This one will be reread many times, at least by this reader it will.
