Publisher's summary

As the old man's hands pulled back the worn leather, Alman looked at what lay within. He reached out and touched the finest of steel. Embedded in the hilt, a perfect diamond. Upon accepting the sword, Alman had to go where no one ever dare go before. He needs to pass mountains where some never return from. Will the fires keep him safe along the way and keep whatever is lurking in the shadows at bay? Will he live to save the others? His father's kingdom depended on him. What magic were they dealing with?

Nicholis, the king of Maramar, regretted the words as soon as they left his lips. He knew his only son could be rebellious and now he knew that he would have to send men to keep him safe. The storm stayed steady and as the four of them walked into his great hall, he took one look at Madeline, the village girl he has taken in and knows who she would be perfect for.

So much left behind

I wish this story had been given depth. The tale being told has the potential to be an epic adventure. However the author has left all the details, character building, and emotion that draws a reader into the story off the pages. Seriously, if you sneeze you will miss the entire death scene of the main character’s best friend. It doesn’t aid matters that the narrator was monotone and bland. I hope the author revisits this book in the future. There is so much potential that has not been actualized.

refreshing new take on fantsy

Great story, good characters, lots of action. My only complaint is that the characters were introduced too narrowly and it made them hard to figure out as to their importance. The writing was well done and was properly edited. I was pleased at the originality she had in development of the book.
I highly recommend this book.

A fine fantasy tale with a cliffhanger

At the start, a prince is given a magical sword, but must head off to get a far off sapling. He takes some of his bodyguards with him.
In the meantime, the King experiences some karma.
The fantasy tale is fine and engaging.

Unfortunately, the audiobook ends in the worst kind of cliffhanger -- one that could have had a more satisfying ending with another paragraph. But no, it's a blatant, desperate cliffhanger. Perhaps the author / publisher / narrator can rethink this and add a few more sentences at the end.

Not recommended.
