Publisher's summary

Cherry Walker was a devoted, trusting, uncommonly innocent young woman who loved caring for a neighbor's little boy. But when she was asked to testify in court against his abusive mother, Cherry never got the chance. She couldn't lie if her life depended on it - and it did. Cherry's body was found on the side of a Texas road, after being doused with lighter fluid and set aflame.

Attractive, manipulative, and violent, mother of four Kim Cargill had a wealth of dirty secrets she'd do anything to keep hidden. This in-depth account by best-selling investigative journalist M. William Phelps takes you inside Cargill's shocking trial and into the mind of one of the most conniving female psychopaths in recent history.

Some narration issues

Overall, the book was okay. More drawn out and repetitive than neccesary to tell the story. The narrator has an annoying technique for letting the listener know it's quoted material; he makes his voice go higher, It works to alert the listener to the fact that it's a quote, but it became so annoying to me, I was cringing, dreading the next quote. Beyond that -- and maybe this was just annoying to me, personally -- he is a good narrator. Book was okay.

Poor performance

I’m really hoping Me. Yen hasn’t been narrating audio books for a long time. His performance almost made me stop listening. The way he would pause and then put such inflection on a quote, almost made this True Crime story comical. Example, Cherry said (long pause) “I DON’T want to go eat”. He does this all throughout the entire book. It’s terrible.

Decades Long Crime Spree of a Serial Abuser

The fascinating story of a dangerous woman and her trail of victims including her children. The trail of abuse and her methods of torturing her victims are ruthless. The crimes she escaped responsibility for over the years boggle the mind. Even worse, she was a nurse. She hid under the banner of a "caregiver". Great writing and narration. Remarkable telling of events. I couldn't put the book down.

Where was child welfare all of those years? Very sad story. Cherry’s parents are beautiful people

The narrator almost ruined it

Good book. Terrible narrator. The way his voice went in and out was like nails on a chalkboard. I feel bad for the author because he wrote a good book and that might get over shadowed by the narration.

Good but...

The narration is awful. I would recommend that you buy the hard copy instead. It's painful to listen to, and read very slowly.

Captivating

Such a terrible happening. I don’t understand how this all occurred when so much evidence was gathered earlier or being gathered about the child abuse. Our system is flawed at times.
