Publisher's summary

At the height of WWII, five idealistic young Americans receive a mysterious letter from the OSS, asking them if they are willing to fight for their country. The men and women from very different backgrounds - a Texan athlete with German roots, an upper-crust son of a French mother and a wealthy businessman, a dirt-poor Midwestern fly fisherman, an orphaned fashion designer, and a ravishingly beautiful female fencer - all answer the call of duty, but each for a secret reason of his or her own. They bond immediately, in a group code-named Dragonfly.

Soon after their training, they are dropped behind enemy lines and take up their false identities, isolated from one another except for a secret drop-box, but in close contact with the powerful Nazi elite who have Paris under siege.

Thus begins a dramatic and riveting cat-and-mouse game, as the young Americans seek to stay under the radar until a fatal misstep leads to the capture and the firing-squad execution of one of their team. But...is everything as it seems, or is this one more elaborate act of spycraft?

great listen

I thought the narrator's did great with the accents and speaking German and French, I saw where others complained of this. Great historical fiction book. In the beginning I did feel that it was confusing as to who was who but once I got all the characters down, I loved it!

One of the best

Started this book on a leisurely vacation because it was lengthy. To my surprise i would wake in the morning to be thinking of all theses characters. The narrators were exceptional in distinguishing between the cast. No spoilers so I’ll leave it with a must read. You will NOT be disappointed. I will be looking to enjoy another book by this author.

Paris During the War Years

Overall I enjoyed this book. It has great descriptions of what it must have been like to live in Occupied Paris during World War II. I found some of the plot a little ingenious which was why I gave it four instead of five stars. The performance was excellent.

Incredible storytelling!

I love historical fiction & especially works about WWII. This is most definitely one of the best I've read (heard). The narrators were outstanding! Can't wait to listen to another Leila Meacham story!

A whole lot of story lines!

I liked this book, but it may be one better read than listened to. There are a lot of story lines and narration happening, and a few times I had to rewind to track who was telling the story. There are a couple of good twists, though, and it kept me listening all the way though.

One of My Favorites

I read this book a few months ago and it still lives with me. A great suspense story and brought the audience to what was going on in WWII France.

excellent for any age

Clean language, no sex. Wonderful tension describing World War 2 in France and 5 young people working to liberate France from Hitler's machine. Wanted to get to the end to learn what happened, but wanted to continue because so well written.
