Publisher's summary

Had she finally met the man she longed for...or was she dreaming?

Marlie Keen was trying to lead a quiet, ordinary life. She thought the knowing - the clairvoyance that allowed her to witness crimes as they happened - had been destroyed in the nightmare of her past. Then one night it returned with a vengeance, and she desperately needed to find someone to make it stop.

Detective Dane Hollister of the Orlando police department had never met anyone like Marlie. He had doubts about her clairvoyance, but there was no doubt how much he desired her. Her soft, sweet scent set his blood afire, and he wanted to wrap her in his arms and chase the sadness from her eyes.

To Marlie, Dane was all heat and hard muscle, and he made her body come alive as it never had before. But not even she could foresee where their passion would lead: a hungry quest for the elusive, dreamy ecstasies of love...and a dangerous journey into the twisted mind of a madman who would threaten their happiness and their lives....

Good story.

I’ve read this book several times. This is the first time I’ve listen to audio. I don’t mind the man’s voice, but he does portray the woman is whiny. I’ve noticed this before with men when they take on a woman’s voice sometimes it becomes whiny. I find that just a bit offensive. I’ve read several books that have both male and a female, which is my preference.

Better to read it in print

I love Linda Howard’s writing. This book was originally published in print in 1994, and it reflects the decade in which it was written. If landlines, pagers and faxes, instead of mobile phones, texts and emails bother you, then this is not your book. 🤣 Regardless of decade, Linda‘s writing is as talented as ever here.

I enjoyed Phil Gigante at first, until he began to voice the FMC. He doesn’t seem to have the knack of voicing female characters without making them sound breathy, childlike, and weak. He did a great job at the male voices. Unfortunately, when I was looking for other books he has narrated, I found some disturbing criminal convictions in his past. I don’t think I’ll be putting my money towards anything else he’s narrated, whether I love the author or not.

Good story made gr8 because of Phil G.

Good, contemporary crime, drama, metaphysical, romance. Phil elevates the story and brings the sexy shivers. ALWAYS. Note: there is fairly detailed violence, rape, murder. Though sex is detailed, it's hot, consensual, and loving between hero/heroine. Stars well deserved.

Excellent book

I have read this book before many years ago but listening to it really gave me all the emotions of suspense, fear and who-done it. I think I even fell for the male lead just a little bit.

Meh. A potentially good story, but lacking.

Have to say, overall very disappointed with this book. Had the potential to be very good, but characters were a bit lacking, and the narration of the main female character was PAINFUL and cringe worthy! My teeth were on edge at his (sorry, Mr. Gigante) overly breathy, sappy interpretation of her. I think dual narration with a better female voice would have lended Marlie's character much more strength and believability. Not my favorite of Ms. Howard's books.

Great til the ending

SPOILER ALERT!!! Don't read this if you don't want to know the ending! I was REALLY loving this story, until the "hero" did the most UNheroic thing and totally lied to her and betrayed her and then thought it should just be ok! And the author actually let him get away with it!!! Sooooo incredibly disappointed in her! I love Linda Howard's books, but this guy was a HUGE disappointment! I know it's fiction, but come on, no woman worth her salt would have let that slide! He lied to her and freaking used her as BAIT for a serial killer! Knowing her history! And Knowing that even of it didn't get her killed by THAT killer, he was putting a target on her back for the rest of her life! And he got her fired from her job and she's gonna HAVE to move because of the publicity- ugh ugh ugh!!! Wow, such disappointing ending! The author could have had him get her cooperation with the stakeout, and still had all the drama that happened- I just thought this was a bad decision on her part, it REALLY made me just HATE the hero- I would have told him to go jump in a lake! How could you ever trust him again! Grrrrr!!

Male Narrator

The male narrator in this book just did not fit, it should have been a female. A female can do a man's voice better than a man can do a woman's voice

Narration Ughhhh

Narration was lame. Some men can pull off a woman’s voice- but not this one. Annoying. And they spent half the book having amazing sex multiple times a day and night. Poor story development. Predictable.
