NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Mixed reading and dramatized made it confusing at times

The mixture of the reader and the voice actor’s dramatization made it confusing at times. Some chapters were just the reader and his of voice changing for each character then it would switch to the reader as the narrator and different voice actors for each character. I feel that it took away from the story telling.
Have one or the other, not both mixed inconsistently throughout the book.

A One of a Kind Experience

Loved the film as a kid in the 80s, so it's odd that I just never got around to reading the book- Especially as friends jeered me for liking the inferior film and promised the book would up there with LOTR so far as favourites if I'd read it.

I'm glad I went with this audiobook over reading because the production was just that good. a cast of talented readers and even some ambient sound scaping in the back to heighten moods. A story so good, I found myself sitting in my driveway to finish chapters after getting home.

Can't wait to 'read' the next ten in the series.

great story and readers

I like books with multiple readers and with sound effects, this did not disappoint. However the main character, Paul, was not the best reader.

The Classic, the One, the Only, D-U-N-E

Haven't read this book in over thirty-five years. I must admit that I remember the plot of "that movie" more than Herbert's original story. I think it has held up very well. The themes are still relevant. The powers at play still ring echos of our own world. That's what makes it a classic.

Fantastic

For all the negative comments I was hesitant but it was wonderful and the music parts actually made the reading better.

Excellent book, well narrated, but...

This is an excellent book, and the narrators and talented. However, there are several places where there is a full cast of voices playing the different roles, and places where the narrator plays all parts. Worse, the changes between cast and narrator seem arbitrary and even occur within the same conversation. This causes a bit of confusion until you make peace with it. Aside from that production blunder, an excellent listen.

Dune - The Ultimate SciFi Book

I loved my first reading this book in 1984 after my sister-in-law introduced the book to me; after the first movie was released. Now I listen to it in a new awakening of great literature and prophetic writing by Herbert. His rich and captivating words keeps one wondering does this whole COVID-19 BS capture us like the Harkonnen and Padishah Emperor use us as puppets in order to have control of the individual and removal of freedom.

best book I've ever read with a decent performance

Dune needs no additional praise, it's garnered it for decades, but I'll just say, WOW. What a well written masterpiece.
