NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Featured Article: The top 100 classics of all time

Before we whipped out our old high school syllabi and dug deep into our libraries to start selecting contenders for this list, we first had to answer the question, "How do we define a classic?" The answer isn’t as straightforward as you might guess, though there’s a lot to be said for the old adage, "You know it when you see it" (or, in this case, hear it). Of course, most critically, each of our picks had to be fabulous in audio. So dust off your aspirational listening list—we have some amazing additions you don’t want to miss.

feels like the fellowship of the ring - bit slow

not a bad book, worth reading. I felt like it was a bit anti-climactic. The lore and culture involved in the novel is fascinating. very creative.

not every book is small.

this was the first book I sought out after watching the movie and learned just how much richer a book is that the movie based on it ever could be. the full cast production just makes it that much better for bedtime reading or a road trip.

Excellent in all ways!

This story is a classic, and the book is infinitely better than the films. I have read the book twice previously.

Audible's Dune worthy of Herbert's storytelling

A standard in the use of the genre - perhaps THE standard; outstanding presentation by Audible.

From dawn to dusk; Dune brings excitement

Changes in performance with voice actors, but overall a thrilling book. Thoroughly enjoyed the rendition of this classic SciFi literature piece.

Inconsistent Production

I love this book. I read it more than 30 years and after hearing an old interview with Frank Herbert where he said he had written the book to be spoken, I was excited to listen to it again. The story is epic in scale and strangely like A Song of Ice and Fire.
However the production of this audio book is inconsistent. Some chapters feature voice actors and some, only the narrator making it difficult to grasp who is who in later chapters that rely on voice actors. It was enough to pull me out of the story at times which is frustrating at the climax.
It honestly would have been better with just the main narrator who is very good.

Great for first audiobook and helpful for class?

I had wished the individual characters had their voices throughout the entire book, rather than the narrator doing a good but already.

but really great

great story, frustrating narration

Some chapters have different voice actors for each character, while others are narrated by one person who doesnt attempt to emulate the voice actors. The characters switch back and forth between having different accents. It makes it very difficult to keep the characters personalities solidified in your head.

Narration aside, it's a very interesting story, invest the time in to reading the print version if possible.
