Story
The Founders were the first marked, and they used those powers to build kingdoms, subjugate the land, and enrich themselves. They will not suffer another to join their ranks. Lost in a world with levels, stats, and monsters, Hal fights to survive in an unforgiving land, and to escape execution from its rulers. Ingenuity and courage won’t be enough. With marked powers he doesn’t understand, he’s easy prey for all the goblins, bandits, aberrations, and foul monsters that plague the realm. He’ll need to abandon his humanity by embracing the beast within.

Story
For those who reside in the outer regions of Aleria, the day of bestowal is what determines their destiny. It is the holy day of the Goddess. The day that allows those of age to step forward and receive their blessing, to embark on the path that she has chosen for them. To receive their Classification, which dictates their strength and ability. For those people, the holy day of bestowal represents fate itself. For Dante, it represents salvation.

When virtual reality becomes real enough that people feel as if they're being transported to another world, Valia Online arrives. A man running from his past joins the game to forget it all. Calling himself Jack Thorn, he chooses an undead race, Deathlord. A mage by choice, and a swordsman by necessity, he soon finds out that he'll need to use much more than magic and steel to survive; strategy, creativity, and carefully chosen words can often accomplish what simple attacks can't.

Becoming a knockoff Dracula in tight leather pants was never part of Vincent’s plans. Neither was being summoned to another world by a cult of vampire wannabes. But both happened. Now, Vincent’s left to pick up the tattered pieces of his humanity as he tries to grow strong enough to keep his family safe. The world is filled with nightmares, and the looming threat of losing his soul stands between his goal and his reality, so it’s not like it will be too hard or anything. Hell should tremble. A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Story
Conquering dungeons and using them to grow has long been the most efficient way to become a powerful adventurer. The only thing keeping the process from being easy is the Beasts that inhabit these places. Questions plague those entering this particular place of power: Where do the ‘rewards’ of weapons, armor, and heavy gold coins come from? Why is a fluffy bunny charging at me? For abyss-sake, why are there so many monsters? Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Core, a soul forced against his will into a magical stone.

Publisher's summary
Dark forces have extended Edward Wright an offer of incredible power at a terrible cost...and Edward has chosen to make them regret it.
When Edward is swept into the world of Ivalis as a Dungeon Lord, the Dark's most powerful servant, he has no servitude in mind. He'll oppose the evil plans of the Dark god, Murmur, whatever it takes.
Through only his wits and his guts to help him survive a weakened arrival, Edward must rise to power if he is to earn the right to live another day. But in the battle between Dark and Light, what can Edward choose if both sides are cruel, uncaring monsters? Cold gods laugh in the distant world of Ivalis. Heroes chase after power and experience, while Kings send their armies to their deaths in the name of the Dark and the Light.
But no one expects the rise of the Dungeon Lord.... And in the world of Ivalis, maybe a single man can forge his own path.
With the One Man Theater himself at the helm, joined by the sensational Annie Ellicott as two of the most disturbing monsters ever produced by Soundbooth Theater, we hope you never forget this horrifying LitRPG experience.

Build your own castle, tame a dragon, conquer a kingdom! All those desperate, lonely, and insecure - Mirror World offers you a chance!" But Oleg isn't meant to become a great wizard or a famous warrior. He'll never have a castle of his own. Nor will he ever tame a dragon. The job was simple: decapitate the zombie, get paid, get out. Warlock Marcus Shifter followed the plan perfectly. The corpse, however, did not. Now there's a body on the loose, accusations of illegal necromancy are flying, and the answers are waiting in the perilous alleys between the mortal and paranormal worlds. They're no place for someone who mostly gave up magic after a childhood accident. And given his tendency to shoot off his mouth and his Glock, Marcus is having a hell of a time digging up more than just bodies. When an apocalypse-minded megalomaniac threatens Marcus's family, things get personal.

Infinite Worlds is the most popular VRMMORPG on the market. Its maps are so vast, developer Hard Rock Data utilizes a network of highly advanced artificial intelligences to control it. But it’s not without problems. That’s why Game Masters like Jeff Driscoll have jobs. The downside? He’s not allowed to play the game. Something about conflicts of interest and favoritism. His very boring and tedious job is to help players deal with the occasional bug that slips through the cracks and ensure they enjoy their time playing enough to give a five-star rating.

Long ago, the world fell into twilight, when the great empires of old consumed each other in sorcerous cataclysms. In the south, the Star Towers fell, swallowed by the sea, while the black glaciers descended upon the northern holdfasts, entombing the cities of Min-Ceruth in ice and sorcery. Then from the ancient empire of Menekar, the paladins of Ama came, putting every surviving sorcerer to the sword and cleansing their taint from the land. The pulse of magic slowed, fading like the heartbeat of a dying man. But after a thousand years, it has begun to quicken again.

Most would rather spend eternity in purgatory than be reborn into this living hell—but not Kyle. Hell is exactly where he wants to rule. There's only one problem. Rival gangs have set their sights on his territory, and his few followers are no better than glorified meat shields. Kyle must find a way to salvage his struggling crew, evade authorities, and annihilate his enemies with the help of a mysterious system from a bygone era.

The negative review about gore (spoiler) seems too
I may be cold hearted (I'm not) but the main negative review which references a child's death seems over stated.
I actually didn't buy the book for MONTHS because I took that review seriously. I didn't want depressing. However, I love Jeff Hays and soundbooth so I eventually gave in.
Maybe it's because I fully expected it and the author does signpost the death for the reader in ahead of time so I was REALLY expecting it, but it didn't seem worse than edgy horror or monster movies. For that matter, it's not nearly as bad as classics like The Shining.
Point is, a child dies. The author does NOT give excuricating detail about the pain or suffering beyond noting it. There is NO glorification of child torture.
It's NOT gorn. It's a medieval story and bad things happen. It's a sad plot point.
These are great books!
(I do not wish to imply the other reviewer lied. That's not it. That review is over stated in my opinion.)

Average attitude in a fantasy world.
Was so happy the main character wasn't stereotypically whiny, and actually had some for thought without being a super genius.

A Good Book Carried by a GREAT Performance
Where does Dungeon Lord rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Based on performance and production quality, this is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to. No steady monotone reading here; the narration is dynamic and the voices used to differentiate the characters really bring them to life. The story itself starts out with a very entertaining scene of players interacting in a raid environment - stupid DPS pulling early made me genuinely laugh in a "been there" sort of way - but then moves on to a really forced, WTF scene where the main character assaults his boss (who was the stupid DPS in question) when the boss punishes the MC and another character over the in-game events. Now, maybe having the MC smash his boss's face was intended to set him up with a dark side and make him "dungeon lord" material. Maybe it was wish fulfillment because the author had a boss he wished he could punch. I don't know; the upshot was that it made me think the MC was an idiot with anger management issues, and I very nearly dropped the book right there.
Fortunately, the assault and subsequent arrest is a very short sequence, and the book quickly moved on to the fantasy aspects of the world. Which were interesting, but good god that was a huge info dump that could have been handled better (and which was saved by the narration, which was excellent even during the boring parts). And while the story is a good-not-great portal fantasy, some of the actual gaming elements that make it LitRPG felt pasted on. The author could have written much the same book without the game trappings. Making the mechanics more central to the story would have made it a better LitRPG book; dropping them entirely would have made it a better fantasy book. As it is, the story seems a bit unfocused and doesn't really pay off, but the entertainment value of the narration kept me listening to the end.

The narration is the best I've ever heard!
For me the highlight of this book was the incredible narration! Honestly, other than saying that the narration was perfect, I have no clue how to describe it.
The story itself is good. Personally I didn't like how slow the characters are at growing, but it's not badly paced, just slower than I was hoping.

so much fun
I was surprised how sucked into this book I got. loved the concept and the voice acting was incredible. The main character wasn't the deepest but that's okay because the world and your introduction to it was fascinating.

Excellent Dungeon Core but...
This book had excellent crunch and an entertaining storyline, but the MC is a little too virtuous for me. I dont mind a good character, but in a world as cruel as the one the MC finds himself in, it's unrealistic he would survive let alone thrive. In order to accommodate this, the author has to weave the story in a way that makes it hard to suspend disbelief. I found myself scoffing incredulously at events, which in-turn made it difficult to remain immersed in the story. With that stated, I do believe the author did an excellent job navigating the story to minimize the impossibility of the main character's success due to his absurd ethics. If you love dungeon core and virtuous MCs then I highly recommend this book to you.
