Drafted in 1942, Malarkey arrived at Toccoa Camp in Georgia and was one of six soldiers who earned their Eagle wings and went to England in 1943 to provide ground cover for the largest amphibious military attack in history: Operation Overlord.

In the darkness of D-Day morning, Malarkey parachuted into France and, within days, was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroism in battle. He fought for 23 days in Normandy, nearly 80 in Holland, 39 in Bastogne, and nearly 30 more in and near Haguenau, France, and the Ruhr pocket in Germany.

This is his dramatic tale of those bloody days fighting his way from the shores of France to the heartland of Germany, and the epic story of how an adventurous kid from Oregon became a leader of men.

I AM SO PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN

If ever you find yourself disappointed in our great country listen to the book "EASY COMPANY SOLDIER". UNABRIDGED) It is the most heartwarming true story I have ever listened to. After completing the listen, I realize how lucky I am to be an American. I also realized how much our soldiers gave and continue to give to our great nation without expecting anything in return.

It is a story about the sadness of war, and how one person survived it. The book describes in detail the horrors he experienced. There is no movie that could come close to Don Malarkey's experiences. If I could give this listen more than five stars, I would rate it over a thousand stars for its honesty. I'm sure I will listen to it again and again.

this was a great listen. im a big fan of the hbo series "band of brothers." i very much enjoyed this. not a waste of a credit!!!

This is a amazing story and book. Iv listened to and watched other books and the movie and by far one of the better books of Ez company if read.

No nonsense glimpse into the past

Malarkey and Welch do a good job of building up to and relating the tension and exhaustion of Army Airborne training and combat. They do this without ignoring the internal social and psychological dialogues Malarkey had throughout his life. I found the overall arc of the story enlightening, tracing the soldier from his boyhood through his old age. Excellent narration also made this an easy and enjoyable listen for someone already familiar with the historical events involved. It's a man's perspective.

Another Brother from the Band of Brothers

Reality? Damn right it was real. Don Malarkey starts expectantly well and his story of his life and EASY Co. are enlightening. Don's ability to put his innermost thoughts on the page bring out a reality that can't be truly understood unless you have been in combat with the buddies you trained with. But he gives a picture of his feelings that everyone can easily understand. He adds names left out by Ambrose. He supports the other books written about Easy Co. This is a must listen if you are a history buff and should be listened to by every young man before they enter the service as a point of reference.
