About this listen

If we were to choose an epitaph for David, it would be the closing verse of Psalm 23: “And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever”; if we were to choose an epitaph for Solomon it would be from the opening lines of Ecclesiastes: “Meaningless, meaningless, everything is meaningless.” Although remembered as a stunningly successful king, Solomon is the Bible’s greatest failure in the end. And in Ecclesiastes, he admits it. Join Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy as he explores Ecclesiastes, a study of Solomon in sharp contrast to his father, David.

Editorial reviews

Dr. Bill Creasy of Logos Bible Study uses a literary, historical approach to examine and enliven the bible for modern listeners. Dr. Creasy draws on his studies, travels, and personal anecdotes to depict a vivid picture of the works of scripture. Somewhere between a sermon and a college lecture, he delivers these audiobooks with authority but a pleasantly friendly voice and a touch of fun, using contemporary references.

Dr. Creasy calls Ecclesiastes Solomon’s epitaph; what psalm 23 is for David. He discusses it here in depth describing it as a brutally honest look into Solomon’s heart that Creasy warns can be pretty depressing but is full of wisdom and worth serious examination.

Entertaining reading of Ecclesiastes

Though Ecclesiastes is a bit depressing, Dr. Creasy's reading is entertaining and lighthearted. I enjoy his explanations.

Depth with a sense of humor

The narrator brought depth and humor into Ecclesiastes, which can be a dark book. I appreciated his interpretations using examples that we are all familiar with.

Not up to the usual great Dr. Cresey performance

Not up to Dr. Cresey’s usual standards. He mainly reads the text. Missing most of the time is his delightful commentary. I would’ve liked more of his song “take” on most important and intriguing text.

Not the usual caliber of study

The Dr. is making more personal opinions in this study than usual and I tend to disagree with his views.
He usually makes interesting scholarly and historical additions as the book is read which I’ve found quite valuable-sadly not in this case. In addition, the lectures seem rushed.

I did not request or download this book

I did not request or download this book and I cannot delete it from my library. Not sure if Amazon or the author Dr. Bill Creasy forced this into my account but I am not that unwanted books are being placed into my library with no way of deleting them.

A reading essentially

A great performance by Creasy, but only 10% exegesis. You can read it yourself. Still good.

Just basically read there book... :-)

unfortunately it seems like the author just read the book of Ecclesiastes word for word and made comments every once in a while. I was looking for something that would give some further insight to the public enthusiasts not helpful. perhaps I misunderstood some of the other views. disappointed.
