Stephen Mangan and Alistair McGowan star in the fantastical BBC Radio 4 comedy by Anil Gupta and Richard Pinto.When fantasy novelist Sam is whisked off to Lower Earth by a band of noble warriors, his dog Amis goes with them. Transformed into human form, Amis turns out to be The Chosen One, whom the warriors need to help find the Sword of Asnagar. Only with the sword can they save Lower Earth from the evil rule of Lord Darkness.As their perilous adventure unfolds Sam, Amis and their new friends encounter many perils, put in their way by Lord Darkness and his evil assistant Kreech.With a supporting cast featuring Darren Boyd, Kevin Eldon, Sophie Winkleman, Ingrid Oliver, Dave Lamb and Chris Pavlo, Elvenquest is a clever and funny pastiche of the fantasy fiction genre. saved by the evil characters

coming to this straight after Hut 33 I wasn't initially sure I'd done the right thing. However, with the first couple of set up chapters out of the way, things got interesting. I shan't spoil it with details, but suffice to say that the combined characters of the Lord of Darkness and his right hand sycophantic 2iC, Creech are worth listening to all by themselves. Overall I gave this a decent rating, but do believe that without the talent of those actors it wouldn't have got above the 3/5 mark

Phenomenal

Far better than I expected! A masterpiece of comedic gold! My wife and I highly recommend ElvenQuest.

Hilarious, Irreverent, and utterly Captivating

Simply put, I adored it. Definitely an Encore in order! The sound effects signaling the change of scene to the Evil Lord of Darkness brought a chuckle before the actors spoke. The actors voices perfectly portrayed the characters to a T!

One of, if not THE best comedy series I’ve listened to.

I wish there was more like this, but have not had much luck finding it. Funny and entertaining from start to finish.

Not what I expected

I didn't know what to expect from this dramatization. I expected fantasy set in an alternate universe as it was written. But.. the synopsis doesn't do it justice. This is very funny with a lot of tongue in cheek humor. I started listening and had to back up several times for the jokes and funny happenings. Most of this is due to the background music and sounds blocking out softer voices. The humor is adult but not graphic. There should be more about the villain and about the dog. It is omitted in the synopsis that the dog is changed into a human. But he remains the faithful canine companion. He behaves as I would expect my dog to behave if he became human. His values are that of the loyal canine who doesn't really understand why he is now human. But he goes along with it because of his master. The villain and his side kick are funny too. The supporting cast is great. I am glad that I browsed and got the entire series on one audiobook. Anyone who enjoys radio type dramatizations and humor should give this a try. My only complaint is that the background music and sounds made the voices hard to hear at times.

Hilarious

A wonderfully funny radio program... Imagine if you took Monty Python, Lord of the Rings, and Red Dwarf and squished it all together... Bingo, this is it... Delightful bad punning and innuendo, not to mention the superb digs at pop culture and current events... Fabulous performances throughout... Absolutely worth the credit and you're welcome...

Funny and Enjoyable

Just a quick heads up. This is the complete series unlike what the “story so far” would leave you to believe and it does not have an “ending”, not that it really needs one, just something I was wondering the entire time I listened.

amazing BBC gem

I feel like this review is for a very niche community of BBC radio4 sitcom lovers. I was in desperate search for a gem similar to the other great ones (names below) and elvenquest hit the spot! great acting by all esp Stephen Mangan and Darren Boyd (from Outlaws!).
it's very fast paced and I never wanted it to end :)
