Publisher's summary

The colony planet of Eighty-Six looks as dull as all its fellow new worlds to veteran journalist Lex Falk. But when a local squabble starts to turn violent, and the media start getting the runaround from the military high command, his interest is seriously piqued.

Forbidden from approaching the battlezone, he gets himself chipped inside the head of a combat veteran - and uncovers the story of a lifetime. When the soldier is killed, however, Falk must use all his resourcefulness to get safely back home again…and blow the lid off the whole damn thing.

Great thrilling story, weak conclusion.

Without giving spoilers, the title is all I really need to say. That is all.

Not Too Freaking™ Shabby

A really good read once you get past the narrator, he speaks way too fast naturally.... Once you get used to it and get into the story you'll be pleased... A lotta dry humor and forward speculation on future mores, and some really good action and military effect SF;). It moves well and has a tantalizing underlying mystery... Let's just say embedded has a few more meanings than you think at first, or for a while;). Really good characters and nice plotting.. Even the power of journalism thing is pulled off w/o being corny...

Great action-packed, realistic scifi

EMBEDDED is an absolute knockout of a book. Abnett is a gifted action narrator. His combat sequences explode into life. His use of metaphor to set a scene painted clear pictures for me, and made things more believable by imprinting modern-day moods and beliefs onto the futuristic setting. Without a doubt, Abnett's future is one of the most logical and believable extensions of our current world I've ever read.

I listened to the audiobook. The narrator read way too fast, but I adjusted to it quickly enough that it didn't ruin the story. The narrator was talented and had a great delivery, but the speed bordered on ruining the experience.

If you're the fancy type to believes it's not real science fiction unless there's a deep message where the author tells you what's wrong with our current society, this book might not be for you. EMBEDDED is a balls-out thriller that paints a realistic future picture without shoving a belief system down your throat.

Score another for Abnett

If you aren't familiar with Dan Abnett's work for the Warhammer series of books you should check them out. Mr. Abnett has a gift for characters and story telling. This one is no different. Eric Dove does a great narrating job as well.

Dan abnett should write non 40k stuff more often

I knew Dan's work via the 40k series but this book is phenomenal and tells a story about a unique universe without a long "Kojima" explanation about all the details. The book respects the audience to figure the world out through the characters.

To fast

What did you like best about Embedded? What did you like least?

I loved the plot, the way in which the main character is embedded. What i found lacking was not so much the story rather the way in which the story was told.

How could the performance have been better?

It is read way to fast, at least for me. English is not my first language, but I have never had a problem understanding and enjoying a story in the past and I do have a few books under my belt

Any additional comments?

The narrator is good, but again its to fast. If it were rerecorded with the same narrator at a slower pace i would buy that book to be able to enjoy the story.
And i do love Dan Abnett`s work from the Warhammer 40k storys, so i would also have loved this book i think had it been at a different pace.

Abnett and Dove is a team-up that all other science fiction audiobooks wish they could be

Dan Abnett has always been a superb writer but this book reinforces the fact that he is the best science fiction writer out there.

Eric G. Dove is very talented at his craft. He expertly pulls off not only different voices but different accents as well. His pacing fits the book perfectly.

My only complaint about this book is the fact that the sequel Fiefdom is currently not available on Audible.

I will not only listen to this book but read it as well many times over!
