Publisher's summary

230 BC - The first sovereign emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, has consolidated his ultimate power with battles against the last of the dissenting tribes of China. With one last province to take, he knows he will be pitted against the one man he fears - his mysterious half brother, Li Zhang, leader of a peaceful province to the north. The new emperor's goal was to murder Li Zhang for the secrets he has kept from the world that would give Qin Shi Huang the power to strike beyond the borders of ancient China. The power over earth, water, fire, and air. After a fierce battle by the Great Wall of China, Li Zhang used the powers of Air Bending to escape with his many villages into the expansive and brutal Gobi Desert. There, Li Zhang and his nation will vanish from the histories not only of the First Emperor but of China itself.

Present day - The world's warring governments have simultaneously discovered deposits of an extraterrestrial ore within the borders of Mongolia. This amazing mineral has been found to have properties that, if processed correctly, have the potential to send men far beyond our own solar system using only a fraction of the material as fuel. The age of faster-than-light travel is now within the world's grasp.

Enter Department 5656, the secret US government agency known to only a handful as the Event Group, as they are called upon to join this expedition when it is learned that the recent and brutal nemesis they discovered as having control over a blinded Russian nation is leading the search for the newest of elements that will send mankind beyond the stars.

Join Colonel Jack Collins, Carl Everett, and Director Niles Compton and the rest of the Event Group staff as they attempt to discover the true mystery of what lies beneath the Gobi.

Skies will explode, oceans of sand will rise, and ancient seas from the bowels of the Earth will be called upon to protect the greatest secret in all of China - the legend of Empire of the Dragon.

No. No. No.

I’ve invested a lot of time and money into the Event Group series and have come to love all the characters deeply. Changing narrators after twelve, 11-15+ hour, novels is devastating. Richard Poe has become the voice of the characters. His mastery of the different personalities and the way he gives each character their own distinctive voice allows the listener to know which character is speaking without tags. It’s like joining people who have become family on all their adventures. Bringing on a new narrator after so many novels is impossible to accept. Huge mistake by audible.
As for David L. Golemon...love, love, love your stories!

This is my type of story! A great listen.

I confess that I haven't read/listened to a David L Golemon story before, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Whilst this book is quite late in the series, I didn't find it hard to get to grips with the cast, their motivations and I was even able to understand the back story, although obviously not the detail.

This type of book appeals to me, the linkage with people/events of the past with present day and I was impressed with how David Golemon weaved the story in such a way as it felt plausible. The book had enough action to keep me satisfied and the pace was great.

Jeffrey Kafer does a great job of the narration, was able to separate the key characters and kept the pace appropriate.

My thanks to the author/narrator/publishing for providing me this book, free of charge in return for this unbiased review.

Great story!

This was an amazing experience. There was so much going on, it made it a breathless and wonderful ride. The ending was startling and left me disappointed the next book isn't available!

Excellent Adventure With some Sci-fi mixed in

This was a fun and wild ride. Air-benders, Fire-benders and some crazy alien stuff. Facsimile soldiers and long-dead (not dead) emperors.
The story was fairly straightforward. Mapped out through the various adventures of all the players who will eventually join the fray of battle. With this being the 13th book in the series, I was a little lost on some of the backstory, but in the end, it was not needed to tell the tale of the current adventure. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. I plan on going back and listening to the previous 12 books.

Jeffrey Kafer’s Narration was excellent. He bring with him a certain level of authority to the roles. I Will always be looking forward to more of his narrations.

I requested a free review copy of this audiobook and I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Really enjoyed it

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is my first book in this series. That being said, it seems like it stood alone pretty well. There was lots of action and a decent story line. The narration, for me, was just fine. I've listened to Jeffrey Kafer's other works and have enjoyed his narration style. I noticed other reviewers didn't like the change from the previous narrator but that is understandable. You get used to one narrator for a dozen books it can be hard to deal with a sudden change. That being said, I think if you start with Jeffrey Kafer, or you give him a chance, you'll grow to like his narration like I do.

Great series!

I truly like David Golemon and the The EVENT Group. I will go so far as to say that I will purchase anything by this author and by that I mean hard cover and audio copies. This time I was thrown off because there is a different narrator from the other 12 books in the series. Sometimes I can roll with a narrator change because the narrator brings something different and new. I'm sorry to say that this time it didn't happen. While I enjoy Jeffrey Kafer as a narrator and will also purchase almost anything he is the narrator of this is not his story to tell.

Another great story Mr. Golemon. I will continue to scan for any new titles by you. I sincerely hope Richard Poe is chosen for the next adventure.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It pains me to say Jeffrey Kafer was not the right voice. I do like his voice, it just wasn't the right one for this particular story.

Needs a different narrator.

They story was good, but the narrator does an inadequate job of making characters sound different. The only male characters I could tell apart based on voice all had accents and they could use some improvements in that area. As for female characters, I can understand the issue playing a different gender, but the narrator has room for improvement.

Good story

I have listen to all of the Event group books, the story in this book is as riveting as the others. It only falls short in the narrator. The narrator of the previous books was much more enjoyable to listen to.

Good Story

Group is not it.
As usual, I loved the story, narration, however, was less than stellar. Please consider Mr.Poe for the next book. lm certain Mr. Kafer has a niche, but The Event Group is not it.
