About this listen

New York book editor Maris Matherly-Reed knows a best seller when she sees one - even if it is just a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identified only as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgia coast. Maris is intrigued enough to search for him.

Her trip to Georgia to meet the mysterious author takes her to an eerie, ruined cotton plantation, where Maris finds Parker Evans, a man confined to a wheelchair who carefully hides his past. Coaxing his novel from him chaper by chapter, Maris becomes caught up in his tale of two friends who rent a boat with a young woman for a night of sex and drinking. Only one person will return from that trip.

Disturbed about her sexual attraction to Parker and worried about her marriage to author and her co-publisher Noah Reed, Maris returns to New York, where the delivery of Parker's newest chapters convince her they are more than fiction. She wonders how well she knows her husband and begins a harrowing search for a truth that ties back to a terrifying crime and a man who will use her, or anyone, to get his revenge.

A seriously good book!

I almost never give anything 5 stars but this book is one of the most entertaining, thought-provoking stories ever. The characters are very real, the story believable and Victor Slezak sounded very southern - even to this southern girl. You will not regret spending a credit on this book if you love a good mystery.

The Best of Sandra Brown's

I've read/listened to most of SB's books and this is my favorite! The narrator does an excellent job. I didn't want it to end.

Awesome!

This book pulled me in from the first word and kept me riveted to the last. The characters were so well developed you felt like you knew them personally. Some parts were a bit predictable, but it was fun to listen to them unfold nonetheless. So far, this is my favorite from Sandra Brown. Love the narrator! He is a pleasure to listen to an enhanced the story. This is a credit well spent here on Audible.

Envy

Any additional comments?

Envy is one of the best audiobooks. Plot, characters, pacing, narration … just plain good listening. There are characters to love, hate, empathize with, feel sorry for, ‘envy’, etc., all the emotions of a good drama.

Envy is an unusual tale of writers and publishing, a terrific insight for struggling authors. Two competing college roommates take unique paths that will throw them back together with vengeful jealousy and bitterness that gradually builds throughout the book. A story within a story, clues are dropped throughout each tale that coalesce together in the final chapters with a thrilling ending.

The story is read by Victor Slezak, who has read many of Sandra Brown’s books. Although he does a terrific job, he is a little slow for my taste, so listened at 1.25 using the Audible application. Lots and lots of reviews are available, for all formats. The audiobook was released in 2001 and is just over fourteen hours of listening.

I was hooked from the get go

Although it has a bunch of crude situations and words I couldn't stop listening. I liked it so much I had my husband listen to it too. It had a bit of a surprise at the ending which I didn't see coming.
