About this listen
On his first day teaching math at a community college, Chris Reuben gets an unexpected and unwelcome blast from the past: one of his students is his former shipmate...and ex-boyfriend.
Justin Hayes isn't looking for a second chance when he signs up for his ex's algebra class. All he wants is a passing grade and maybe a shot at mending fences with the man he loved - and hurt - while they were deployed three years ago.
Pain, guilt, and bitterness aren't the only lingering feelings, though, and even if three years is enough to melt the ice between them, they've already put their careers on the line for each other once. Can Justin convince Chris that what they had is worth risking their careers and hearts again?

What starts as a one night stand leaves both of them wanting more, but then Eric finds out Shane doesn't just outrank him, he's an officer. Party planner Colin Brightman doesn’t drink or dance, preferring to go to bed early with his spreadsheets and lists. All he wants is to forget the singles weekend his friends sent him on, but he’s stuck with a suitcase filled with condoms and skimpy Speedos that don’t belong to him. He doesn’t expect his luggage thief to be ex-baseball superstar Walker “Walk-Off” Scanlon. Or that Walker has hired his firm to put on a charity event at his bar. Colin can’t deny the mixed emotions the annoyingly flirty man stirs in him.

Love in the military
Ex equals Is a romantic story about two Navy men who have to hide their love. The book brings to light the turmoil and fear that permeate many stories of homosexual love.
The story gets its title, "Ex Equals" because one man gets a promotion; Thus they are no longer of equal rank. That's when the pressure to hide gets to be too much and one man chooses his career over love. So they go separate ways.
The title applies again when they meet in an algebra class. Remember solving for x= from your old math days! L.A. Witt's cleverness makes the story entertaining, as well as heartwarming.
Trip Warren does a great job narrating and the short story moves at a good pace. It's an easy listening experience that makes you care about the characters and hope they solve their problems. I'd like to hear more books read by him.
Highly recommended!

not bad ....
Any additional comments?
L.A. Witt managed to pack quite a bit of emotion, angst and hot sex into this quick story. The story is told in alternating view points with flashbacks to their initial relationship. I felt Chris forgave far too easily.
This story has the same issues that I have with a lot of Witt's stories and that's arguments repeating themselves: characters bringing up the same points two or three or more times, no one really hearing it, and then everything just kind of works itself out somehow. I don't really want to read the same argument over and over again. This could've easily been five pages shorter if those had been cut out or lessened.
The ending felt rushed, unexplained. I wanted to know what happens going forward, how things panned out but it just stopped.

Ruined by narration
While nowhere near her best work, this story might have been OK but it was ruined by terrible narration. Actually it doesn't qualify as narration but rather a reading that lacked fluency, tone, mispronounced countless words and didn't even attempt characterisation
